On May 6, 2025, American political commentator Ben Shapiro took to his YouTube channel to share his take on the Met Gala 2025 themed Superfine: Tailoring Black Style. The LA-born media personality expressed his disinterest in the Met Gala, describing it as “an event in which bunch of very rich and very famous people get enormous attention for wearing some of the most bizzare crap imaginable.”

Amongst some of the Met Gala outfits Shapiro critically analyzed was Grammy-winning artist Doechii’s LV ensemble. He poked fun, describing it as “bizarre”:

“A singer named Doechii showed up as well, and I have no idea who this person is and showed up wearing what appears to be a romper, like a child’s romper from the early twentieth century. So that was rather bizarre.”

The Anxiety hitmaker was dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton number consisting of a tuxed jacket with the fashion house’s signature logo, matching checkerboard shorts, a mahogany tie and platform Mary Janes. Her hair was styled in a natural Afro.

Doechii addresses controversial Met Gala 2025 clip

In a viral clip from the Met Gala 2025, the Denial Is a River singer can be heard seemingly raising her voice at her team while making her exit from The Mark Hotel. From the start of the video, the 26-year-old tries to exit an elevator before being rushed upon by paparazzi.

In an attempt to protect her from the onslaught of flashing cameras, the artist’s team shields her using a wardrobe screen. A black umbrella is provided for her.

In the video, Doechii could be heard saying, “Yes, I’m ready,” signaling to her team to provide another umbrella. As the clip continues, the rapper says, “No, stop! Get me another umbrella now! And another one.” “I need four f*****g umbrellas,” she adds.

During the chaotic scene, her assistants are seen pushing the white screen wardrobe through the crowded lobby, while she instructs them not to let go of the umbrella.

The singer addressed the controversial Met Gala clip in a TikTok shared on May 7, 2025. Doechii humorously stated:

“God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.”

Before adding:

“All jokes aside, this was such an overstimulating night, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of, and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).”

On Monday, May 5, 2025, Hollywood’s finest were gathered at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art to commemorate this year’s Gala themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The star-studded event featured newcomers like Doechii, Coco Jones, and BLACKPINK’s Lisa, coupled with returnees including Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Tyla, amongst others. This set of guests was attired in exquisite designs that paid homage to eighteenth-century black dandyism.

Some notable outfits of the night were Colman Domingo’s well-embellished Valentino exaggerated blue cape, Diana Ross’s eighteen-foot fur-like dramatic train adorned over a crystal-encrusted gown, and Teyana Taylor’s eye-catching crystal-embellished burgundy suit created by Marc Jacobs and Ruth E. Carter.
