From Anime references, statement accessories to literal cigars on the carpet, the MET Gala 2025 was all about the details, and for any fashion lover who has an eye for particulars, this would be a dream.

The theme of this year's gala was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the dress code was “Tailored for You.” Along with that, the co-chairs this year were A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams.

As for the MET gala theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style explores the importance of style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora, particularly in the United States and Europe,' the Met Museum states.

Here are the trends we spotted on the blue Gala carpet, ranging from quirky to as seen on runways.

Another really fun accessory that was spotted was canes. Canes were a huge part of dandy culture across the world, from Victorian dandies to black dandies. It was the mark of a true gentleman. Bollywood Mega star Shah Rukh Khan, Caleb McLaughlin, Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, and Angel Basette were all spotted with canes, amongst many others, each designed with its very own unique handles.

When we say it was a star-studded night, we definitely were talking about the celebrities who graced the carpet. Metallics, especially silver, were seen sparkling in the flashes of the camera. From Halle Bailey's silver sequinned bodice to Bollywood actress Kiara Advani's gold breast plate, it was a night of pure opulence.

To add a touch of quirk, quite a few guests opted for animal-shaped accessories, adding a touch of character to their formal and chic looks. But the animal accessories were not just about a touch of whimsy, but also had a meaning behind them. For example, Lana Del Rey's alligator clip is an ode to her new husband, who used to be a swamp tour guide, while businesswoman Mona Patel carried a robotic dog-shaped bag representing her tech contributions. Singer Clairo was spotted with a cat-shaped purse, while quite a lot of celebs were spotted in feather detailing.

Grills

Grills are a huge part of African culture, arising from 80s hip hop culture and now being popularised by modern Pop icons like Beyonce, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and more. Grills, also known as fronts or golds, were a huge part of the Gala. While Shaboozey went all out with turquoise grills matching his attire, Pharrell was sporting a gold set. Taraji P. also showed off her silver grills.

Monochrome

With the theme being Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, quite a few celebrities went for a monochromatic look, whether with their suits or full ensembles. Black and white monochrome was a common denominator with Rose from Blackpink decked out in all black, while Coco Jones was glowing in white. Lorde and Kendall Jenner opted for a sleek full grey look while Regé-Jean Page went with a bold red outfit.

Big Bags

With the larger-than-life ensembles most people wear for the gala, you would most likely see small or micro bags, or in some cases, no bags, especially by men. However, this year, statement bags were all the rage, with Bad Bunny's brown and yellow Doctor style bag and Lauryn Hill's vibrant blue Hermès Kelly 28, a complete contrast to her butter yellow look.

Braids and Afros

Being a huge celebration of black fashion and history, Afros and braids were quite a big deal for the night. A lot of stars proudly rocked their natural hair with Lauryn Hill and Doechii looking fabulous in Afros, while A$AP Rocky was sporting his signature braids styled in coils.

The MET is also another reason for stars to completely bling out, and you could definitely see that with the stacks of necklaces and rings sparkling on the carpet. Kendal Jenner, Shah Rukh Khan, model Vittoria Cerreti, and Kim Kardashian were a picture of opulence with their layers and layers of diamonds, while Tems, designer LaQuan Smith, Amelia Gray, and others had more rings than the weight of their hands.

Ties

The gala declared that skinny ties are back in fashion as more celebs than you can count were spotted wearing them. Because of the theme, tailored suits were the main uniform for the night, and you need the perfect tie to complete the look. Jaden Smith, Central Cee, and Burna Boy added a touch of class to their ensembles with a chic skinny tie.

Bold Lapels

With great power comes great responsibility, and with great suits come even greater lapels. To elevate even the simplest of suits, you need crisp and bold or big lapels for a dramatic flair. Giovanna Battaglia, Engelbert, and Sora Choi had Swarovski embroidered lapels, while Canadian singer Kaytranada elevated his suit with ruffles.

Cigars

There was a surprising accessory on the carpet, and not for the reasons you think. Celebrities like Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter, and Pharrell Williams were carrying actual cigars at the event. This comes off as surprising since smoking is also not allowed on the carpet according to Anna Wintour's rules, whether it's cigarettes, vapes, or anything else.

Polka Dots

Polka Dots are one of the biggest spring/summer trends of the year, and you could definitely see that at the MET. From Priyanka Chopra's white, black polka dot dress to Justice Smith's half-blazer detailing, the print adds just the right amount of whimsy to an ensemble.

Pinstripes

Pinstripe suits are quite the norm when you want to elevate a simple structured suit, and that's exactly what a majority of the celebrities had in mind. Though the list is endless, Alicia Keys with her multiple shades of red pinstripes, Patrick Schwarzenegger's playsuit belted style, and Ashley Graham's corsetted suit style dress are some looks that left a lasting impression.

Hats

Top hats and newsboy caps were the perfect accessory of the night, adding the finishing touch that was needed. Hunter Schafer was wearing a bright white beret while J Balvin went with a light pink cowboy hat to go with his all-pink suit. Actress Jodie Turner-Smith wore a large, dramatic burgundy top hat with her Burberry gown.

As the night was all about iconic references, Alton Mason showed up as the real-life incarnation of Giorno Giovanna from his favourite anime, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. And while she never officially confirmed it, Doja Cat also looked straight out of the anime with her "Bizarre" outfit and dramatic glam.
