Kristin Chenoweth addresses criticism over a comment on Charlie Kirk's death
Kristin Chenoweth appeared on Spectrum News New York 1 on September 18 with host and journalist Frank DiLella, who asked her questions about her return to Broadway. Amid the questions, DiLella brought up her comment on Kirk's death, noting that it had received mixed reactions.
Kristin Chenoweth replied:
"Mix? You're being kind."
Continuing his statement, DiLella asked her:
"You have a big LGBTQ+ fan base. You know, for members and allies in the LGBTQ+ community, Charlie was a controversial figure. He openly opposed same-sex marriage, trans rights. So I ask, what were you hoping to convey with that post?"
After taking a few seconds, Kristin Chenoweth replied:
"I'm sorry if emotion gets involved here, forgive me. I saw what happened online with my own eyes and I had a human moment of reflection right then. I came to understand that my comment hurt some folks and that hurt me so badly. I would never."
She continued:
"It’s no secret that I’m a Christian, that I’m a person of faith. It’s also no secret that I am an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and for some, that doesn’t go together. But for me, it always has and it always will."
Frank DiLella then shifted the discussion to her Broadway appearance. While Chenoweth has addressed her comment on Charlie Kirk's death, her Instagram remains filled with mixed reactions. Many users criticized her post, and some even unfollowed her. As of now, the actress has around 1.6 million followers on Instagram.
