Who was Song Do-soon? Everything to know as Tom and Jerry voice actor dies at 77

Song Do-soon, famous for lending her voice to the Tom and Jerry series produced by MBC, has died at the age of seventy-seven. The news was reportedly announced by her family members.

She was married to Park Hee-min at the time of her death. The couple also had two sons, Park Joon-hyuk and Park Jin-jae.

Do-soon was battling with thyroid cancer, which she revealed six years ago through the statement:

"Since my thyroid cancer surgery a few years ago, I’ve had trouble digesting food. Everyone takes care of their health, but I didn’t. That’s why I’m doing it now. But once I start something, I go all out."

Speaking of her career, she added at that time, as reported by Chosun:

"I worked for 53 years without being fired. I can’t exactly say it’s retirement, but I’m planning to stop. Reflecting on my youth, I lived intensely without knowing my limits. I think I’ve finally found the courage to let go of work. It feels like I did the right thing."

Song Do-soon had a passion for voice acting since her early days. She became a voice actor at Tongyang Broadcasting Company while she was in the university. Her biggest recognition came from the Tom and Jerry series by MBC, where she lent her voice. The series was loved by her fans.

Because of her talent and popularity, she worked on many projects and shows, some of which include A Small Station, 101 Dalmatians, My Friend Dragon, and Cheerful Comedy. For her talent, she also received the Grand Prize at the Korea Broadcasting Awards.

Ten years ago, she became a tourism ambassador for Korea and got the nickname Smart-Sounding Auntie. She was also a director at the Special Speech Academy.

Her son, Park Joon-hyuk, is a famous actor who has worked in a number of series, some of which include Doctor Lawyer, Detectives in Trouble, and Heaven's Hate.

According to the Maeil Business Newspaper, a memorial room for her will be set up at Asan Medical Center in Seoul.

As of now, Song Do-soon's son, Park Joon-hyuk, has not shared any public statement regarding his mother's passing. The family has chosen to keep further details private at this time.
