Popular Japanese actor Shimizu Hiroya has faced severe backlash following his recent controversy. The actor who starred in TBS’s successful series The 19th Medical Chart was allegedly accused of using marijuana, leading to TBS writing him out of his scenes in the series.

On September 3, 2025, Shimuzu Hiroya was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department of Tokyo for allegedly possessing marijuana at his residence.

According to reports, the actor admitted to the use of the substance.

“There is no doubt that I had marijuana,” he admitted.

The police made their move eight months after receiving a tip that the actor was suspected of using drugs in January. After the police raided his apartment in September, Shimizu Hiroya and an unnamed woman were arrested after officers seized a substance suspected to be marijuana, rolling papers, and other drug-related items.

According to reports, Hiroya admitted during questioning that he began using Cannabis during his time as a 20-year-old student in L.A.

“I was invited to a home party and was offered marijuana rolled in papers like a cigarette.”

After each use, Shimizu Hiroya revealed that he always felt euphoria and relaxation, which led him to increase his use, especially after he became more famous.

“Since the beginning of this year, I have started smoking marijuana several times a month.”

Following the news of Shimizu Hiroya’s arrest, his agency released a statement.

“We first learned of this news from this morning’s breaking reports and are deeply troubled. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and concern caused.”

The summary continued:

“Doctor Tokushige Akira examines his patients and takes into account their lifestyles, home environment, and state of mind, regardless of their gender or age.
