While 9-1-1: Lone Star has come to an end after a run of five seasons, the 9-1-1 franchise continues with the introduction of a new spin-off series, 9-1-1: Nashville. The show was announced in February 2025 and is going to focus on a fresh set of characters.
Meanwhile, Rob Lowe, who starred in Lone Star as the lead Owen Strand, has talked about whether he is open to reprising his role in the spin-off. The character became a fan favorite, and audiences are certainly looking forward to his potential return to the franchise.
In a recent interview with Decider, Lowe said that he is willing to make an appearance on 9-1-1: Nashville. He revealed that his younger brother, Chad Lowe, is an executive producer on the upcoming show, so his return is certainly possible.
Rob Lowe is open to returning as Owen Strand in 9-1-1: Nashville
Rob Lowe’s real-life brother Chad Lowe played his on-screen brother, Robert Strand, in 9-1-1: Lone Star Seasons 3 and 4. Chad is now serving as a director and executive producer on 9-1-1: Nashville. Joking about how his brother could make him a part of the new spin-off, Rob said:
“Well, I’ll have to ask Chad Lowe, my brother. See, all my family are gatekeepers to my own future business now. Chad Lowe is the executive producer, director of 9-1-1 Nashville. And so I’m just waiting for my phone to ring. I mean, you know, I hired him on Lone Star. I think turnabout is fair play.”
While Rob is interested in reprising his role in the Nashville spin-off, the series creators or ABC have not yet confirmed if he will be made a part of the show. As the name suggests, the new series will be set in Nashville, Tennessee, where a team of first responders will be putting their lives at stake to help those stuck in dangerous situations.
The confirmed cast members in the show include Chris O'Donnell as Captain Don Sharpe, Hailey Kilgore as Taylor, Jessica Capshaw as Blythe Ward, Juani Feliz as Roxie, Hunter McVey as Blue, and Michael Provost as Ryan Sharpe. LeAnn Rimes and Kimberly Williams-Paisley have been cast in undisclosed roles.
9-1-1: Lone Star, on the other hand, focused on Owen Strand, a firefighter who relocated from New York City to Austin, Texas. He had to perform his duties while also facing troubles in his personal life. Apart from Rob Lowe, the series starred Ronen Rubinstein as Tyler Kennedy "TK" Strand, Sierra McClain as Grace Ryder, and Jim Parrack as Judson "Judd" Ryder.
The cast also included Natacha Karam as Marjan Marwani, Rafael L. Silva as Carlos Reyes, Gina Torres as Tommy Veg, Julian Works as Mateo Chavez, and Brian Michael Smith as Paul Strickland.
The procedural franchise began in 2018 with the mothership 9-1-1 series, which continues to air new seasons every year. The show has been renewed for a ninth season, which is expected to premiere on ABC in the fall of 2025.
