Blindspot was a highly acclaimed crime thriller when it first released in 2015 and ran for five seasons in 2020. The recent addition of all five seasons on Netflix might give the series a much-needed boost by grabbing the attention of a whole new audience.

This might also begin another conversation about a spin-off of the series with fan-favorite characters such as Zapata or Patterson, and Rich Dotcom. While there is no such news about any of these spin-offs of Blindspot taking place right now, series creator Martin Gero never dismissed any idea, and when asked, he was up for spin-offs for the beloved characters.

More on this in our story.

Blindspot spin-off might not happen soon but creator Martin Gero loved the idea

The series began with Jaimie Alexander’s Jane being discovered in a body bag without any memory of how she got there. In the final season, Jane was seen suffering from hallucinations after being exposed to the ZIP bomb again, which was used on her all those years ago, but Patterson’s antidote helped her this time.

She tried hard to remember where Ivy might have hidden the canister of the ZIP bomb and discovered that it was Times Square in NYC. The team then successfully finds and detonates the bomb, with happy endings for all the members, which leaves room for spinoffs for the beloved members of the FBI team: Audrey Esparza’s Natasha Zapata, who went on with her work as a private investigator, and Ashley Johnson’s Patterson and Ennis Esmer’s Rich Dotcom.

While there is no news about a spinoff of Blindspot, in a 2020 Deadline interview, creator Martin Gero talked about being on board with the idea if approached. He said:

"I’d be super open to it. I mean, Audrey is part of the…she’s a star I think since the beginning, and if anyone wants to do a Zapata P.I. spinoff, they know where to find me. I’d love to do it."

But when asked about doing it in the near future, he shared that he was already developing two projects that might take up most of his time, so he was not thinking about a spinoff at the time.

Aside from the Zapata spinoff, Gero was also asked about the Patterson and Rich spinoff by TVLine in 2020, and he shared that he would love to collaborate with Ashley and Ennis whenever it was possible. He stated:

"I would die to work with Ashley [Johnson] and Ennis [Esmer] again in any way. If they ever said, ‘Hey, let’s do this,’ sign me up. I would figure it out. I’d figure out a way to make it happen."

He also said that after running for five years, they might need a break from Blindspot, but ended by saying that he would still like to work with them as he loved the characters. He shared:

"We’re all needing a little Blindspot break for the moment."

While there has been no news of spin-offs for any of the Blindspot characters, Gero’s words and the newfound popularity of the series after coming to Netflix do seem hopeful.
