The latest GOT spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will premiere on January 18, 2026. Based on George R. R. Martin's novellas called Tales of Dunk and Egg, it will take us back to Westeros but in a different setting. The show takes place after the events of House of the Dragon and a century before Game of Thrones.
It will focus on a low-born wandering knight named Dunk and his young squire, Egg, on an unpredictable journey. During the New York Comic Con, showrunner Ira Parker shared with TV Line how magical the first encounter of Dunk, played by Peter Claffey and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), was.
He shared that when he first saw the actors bringing Martin's popular pair from his books to life, they seemed 'otherworldly' to him. He stated:
"I remember seeing Egg standing outside the stables as Dunk was riding in, and the way that it was lit, he seemed otherworldly."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Showrunner Ira Parker talks about Dunk and Egg's first scene together
The Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will be different from the previous two fantasy series due to its change in tone. While the other shows were grim, the prequel series will be more lighthearted than they are. It will still have grit, mud, and thrilling jousting events, but it will be more grounded.
Furthermore, unlike the other two hit HBO series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have a low-born character at the centre. While GOT and House of the Dragon revolved mostly around the ruling families of Westeros, the new prequel series will focus on Ser Duncan, who was not born into royalty and was an orphan.
The story will revolve around Dunk looking for adventure and then participating in the Ashford Tourney. He will then encounter Egg, who wants to become his squire, which Dunk initially refuses.
In the interview, Parker talked about the first meeting between Ser Duncan/Dunk and Egg. He shared how even if someone is not aware of their story, they will still find the character to be 'special'.
To add to his previous comment, he said:
"It was like this alien entering. If you haven’t read the books, you don’t know where their stories are going to take you, but for some reason, you feel that this character is special. There’s no better word for it than magic… When you see Egg for the first time, there’s just a little something in the air, you know?"
Parker further talked about how the show will be different and the character to be hopeful, even after going through a challenging life. While it will have all the elements of sorcery and violence, it will still depict a humble and grounded narrative that will make the viewers see a different version of Westeros and its people.
Other than Claffey and Ansell, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms also stars Finn Bennett, Sam Spruell, Tanzyn Crawford, Bertie Carvel, and Daniel Ings, among others.
