Viewers who purchased tickets to see Superman recently were treated to a Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, which has not been released online. This supposedly answers what fans have been confused about ever since it was confirmed that the first (except for the Justice League appearance) and second season of Peacemaker were canonical to the DCU.
In the trailer, Cena's Christopher Smith confirms the existence of another reality by saying, "There's another dimension. That's exactly the same as ours. But it's better". This might suggest that the Peacemaker's meeting with the Justice League in the season 1 finale happened in an alternate reality, while every event until then is canonical. But this will be explained when Peacemaker Season 2 begins streaming on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Looks like Peacemaker Season 2 is taking place on a different Earth:
If you remember, the season 1 finale, "It's Cow or Never", streamed February 17, 2022. In the final act of this episode, Christopher Smith and his fellow team members meet the Justice League. Initially a silhouette, we learn that two members of the team, Aquaman and the Flash, are played by their respective actors, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller.
But, as we know, Momoa has been recast as the anti-hero Lobo in the new DCU, and Ezra Miller destroyed their reputation. Thus, it was a foregone conclusion that Miller would not be reprising their role even if the DCEU wasn't scrapped. But given the negative reception to Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it was a prudent decision to scrap the continuity in favor of a new one.
Given how The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were acclaimed, and none of the actors in them were controversial, it makes sense for the two projects to be retconned into the DCU. Moreover, it is well known that Peacemaker Season 2 will dabble in the multiverse.
This was hinted at by the last Peacemaker Season 2 trailer, which ends with a scene featuring not one but two Christopher Smiths, both played by John Cena. It seems that one of these two Peacemakers will be an evil version, who supposedly joined his father and possibly even an alive brother. Confirming that the pocket universe in season 1 will play a role in season 2:
"You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker, and we see more about that technology in Superman. The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2... We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman. There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show."
Based on the quote above, we can ascertain that the QUC, apart from serving as a storage unit and a bridge between two different geographical locations (like it did in Superman), might also serve as the gateway to the wider multiverse.
Are you satisfied with the answer in the unreleased Peacemaker Season 2 trailer?
