Ghosts Season 5 is setting the stage for another “possession” in its upcoming Christmas-themed two-parter, “It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol: Part 1 & 2.''

CBS' spooky sitcom initiated this hilarious tradition of Christmas possessions in Season 2, where Viking Thorfinn possessed Sam's body in "The Christmas Spirit.'' Ghosts Season 4 continued this tradition in "A Very Arondekar Christmas", where not one but two ghosts possessed the living. While basement ghost Nancy possessed Sam, Jay's best friend Pete accidentally entered his body, creating a string of chaotic moments.

The earlier released logline for Ghosts Season 5 Christmas two-parter reads:

"Sam's big Christmas Eve TV interview with Walter Storm takes an unexpected turn...''

We can only assume that a Woodstone Mansion ghost will possess Sam's body before her TV interview, presumably about her vampire book on Issac.

Recently, Asher Grodman (Trevor) practically confirmed to Collider that the upcoming episodes will feature a possession:

''We're on Christmas, I'll say, there's just a possession coming around the corner that's just so, so well done.''

More on this in our story.

Ghosts Season 5: Asher Grodman's Trevor teases a 'possession' in the upcoming Christmas special

What is a Ghosts Christmas Special episode without a good' ol-fashioned possession? So, continuing the Christmas tradition, Ghosts Season 5 will feature another exciting possession in its upcoming two-part Holiday-themed episodes. Asher Grodman teased some details to Collider:

''For the Christmas episode, we're using the construct of a classic Christmas movie to explore the kind of defining dynamic of our show. That's new, and it's a really great two-parter. I haven't seen it, but on the page it was fantastic, and it was a joy to make, so that’s what I’ll [say]. I think I can tell you that and not get in trouble."

Grodman was tight-lipped about which beloved holiday film the Season 5 two-parter will reimagine. However, the episode title “It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol” strongly hints at a mash-up inspiration from two beloved classic Holiday movies, It’s a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Carol.

Additionally, the title strongly suggests that Ghosts Season 5 special episodes might bring back Carol, Pete's widow, who died on the Woodstone property in Season 4 but was 'sucked-off' in the Season 5 premiere. Carol's 'sucked-off' sequence was certainly abrupt and led the ghosts to question their good deeds.

The Episode 9 title, “It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol,” hints at Carol’s possible return and raises the intriguing possibility that she could be the spirit who ends up “possessing” a living inside Woodstone Mansion.

Ghosts Season 5 ''It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol'' will also bring back Patience

While Carol's return in the upcoming Ghosts Season 5 two-parter is uncertain, Utkarsh Ambudkar (Jay) confirmed the return of another recurring and fan-favorite ghost to Collider. Ambudkar revealed that the exciting 2025 Christmas Special will bring back the puritan woman Patience, who debuted in the Season 4 premiere:

''I cannot tell you what, but it is astounding. You will not believe what Patience is doing, specifically in our Christmas episode. It is terrifying. It's way crazier.''

After her Season 4 debut, Patience became a recurring character in the sitcom, who can make walls bleed with her ghost power. The Puritan woman still holds high regard for her chaste lifestyle and struggles to adjust to the modern world of Woodstone Mansion with every visit. Now that Ambudkar has teased Patience's return in Ghosts Season 5, it will be interesting to see what new chaos awaits Sam, Jay and the Woodstone spirits.

Ghosts Season 5 Episodes 9 and 10 titled ''It’s a Wonderful Christmas Carol: Part 1 & 2" will air on CBS on December 18.
