The latest America's Got Talent Season 20 premiered on May 27, 2025. The first episode of the talent show featured many acts that shocked the judges. There were two Golden Buzzers that were given to two performances, while a few lucky participants got all four yeses from the judges.
One such performer on the premiere night was magician Zak Mirz. He came with his wife and their 2-year-old daughter, Layla. Zak, being a magician, performed an act that left everyone surprised. He told America's Got Talent judges, audience, and viewers at home to guess a random series of events, and in the end, he revealed which one was the correct answer.
Witnessing such an accurate representation of everyone's guess, followed by the same colored teddy bear from the box he arrived with, shocked everyone. The magician who dreamed of being on the America's Got Talent stage got his wish come true, as he advanced on the show.
America's Got Talent Season 20: An incredibly shocking magic act by Zak Mirz
Zak Mirz from Dallas, Texas, auditioned for America's Got Talent Season 20 on the show's premiere. As he arrived on stage, Sofia asked if he was nervous, to which Zak stated he was "incredibly nervous."
"I was like seven or eight when I wanted to do this, and now, it's just so incredible to see y'all," said Zak Mirz.
For his performance, Zak arrived with a gift-wrapped box, which he put on a table on the stage. His magical act started with:
"The most magical thing I've ever experienced is becoming a dad. My daughter Layla's right over there; she's two. It's about to be her birthday, and this is her gift (the box he had kept wrapped). And I promised her, if things go well tonight, we'll open it up early."
For his act on the America's Got Talent premiere, he said he needed everyone's help and walked up to the judges. Zak Mirz told the cameras that viewers watching him from home can also participate in the magical act.
Soon, the screen displayed some of the random objects. There were various sports balls, angel figures, ice cream cones, flowers, balloons, and more. He said they were some of his daughter's favorite things.
He put the kids' wooden picture box in front of each judge and told them to select a different picture from each other. Then he walked up to the judges and asked which picture or color they had chosen.
First up was Simon Cowell. He chose a ball. Sophia chose an elephant, Mel B chose an angel, while Howie chose the color red. So, the final result was: a ball, an elephant, an angel, and the color red.
The screen with his daughter's favorite objects appeared again, and he instructed everyone to place their finger on any random ball from the collection. There were soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, and more.
Next, he told everyone to point to the closest elephant, because that was the second choice (from Sophia). Next, because Mel B chose angel, he told everyone to go to the nearest angel. Lastly, as Howie chose the red color, he told everyone to reach the closest "red object."
Magically, the nearest object, no matter how many times you do it, points to the red teddy bear on screen. Witnessing how everyone's guess was the same red teddy bear, as Zak Mirz said, shocked everyone.
"Check it out. You could have rolled to anything like an ice cream, or a flower, and the results would have been completely different. But, Simon, you rolled to a ball, which starts with the letter B," said Zak Mirz.
Soon, he recalled each of the objects that judges had selected previously, which were:
- Ball,
- Elephant,
- Angel and
- Red color.
He pulled out the saucer where judges put their chosen wooden object, and that led up to the initials BEAR. America's Got Talent judge Howie Mandel appreciated how everything worked out and gave Zak a standing ovation.
To everyone's surprise, the act was not over yet. He ran to the stage, to the gift-wrapped box. He pulled out a big red teddy BEAR. Seeing how the box contained the same object as what came out of the magic act's final guess, everyone was surprised.
While judges were still in surprise, everyone in the audience cheered for Zak and his amazing performance. Howie also recalled how America's Got Talent has had three magicians as the winners. Zak Mirz's magical act won him all four yeses from the judges and his spot on the show.
