As the competition intensifies on American Idol, the Top 10 contestants found a moment to share some light-hearted camaraderie by participating in the popular “passing the phone” trend on social media. The video, posted following the double elimination on Monday night’s episode, shows each contestant complimenting another as they symbolically “pass the phone.”
Each contestant showcased the others' unique personalities and the close bonds formed throughout the season. The Top 10 includes John Foster, Josh King, Jamal Roberts, Mattie Pruitt, Thunderstorm Artis, Slater Nalley, Gabby Samone, Canaan James Hill, Kolbi Jordan, and Breanna Nix.
Miranda Lambert will mentor the Top 10 next Sunday, followed by the Top 8 round on Monday, where songs will be selected by judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and Carrie Underwood.
American Idol: 'Passing the phone' trend
Outside their performances, the American Idol Top 10 showed off their personalities in a fun “passing the phone” reel shared on American Idol’s Instagram account. Kolbi Jordan began the video, saying:
“I am passing the phone to somebody who really, really loves and adores their wife and everybody that works with American Idol knows it.”
Thunderstorm Artis followed, adding:
“Hey, I'm passing the phone to one of the most talented 16-year-olds that I know.”
Mattie Pruitt playfully joined in a group activity by saying she was passing the phone to someone who is a devoted girl dad. Jamal Roberts followed by passing it to someone he believed had the talent to sing in The Raptures. Gabby Samone added to the fun, saying she was passing the phone to two sons who deeply love their mothers.
Josh King and Canaan James Hill teamed up for the segment. Josh began by saying they were passing the phone, and Canaan finished the thought by dedicating it to someone who is an amazing mother to her adorable sons. Breanna Nix joined in next, enthusiastically passing the phone to two of her friends who love and adore Reba McEntire.
The final handoff featured Slater Nalley and John Foster. Slater began, “We’re passing the phone to…” and Foster concluded, “someone who can pull off a cape.” The loop then returned to Kolbi Jordan, who completed the circuit and reinforced the bond among the finalists.
