Disney+'s Andor Season 2 is finally in its last phase of charting Cassian and others' rebellion against the Empire as seen in Rogue One.
The latest batch of episodes saw the tragic Ghorman massacre and Mon Mothma's denouncement of Emperor Palpatine and the Empire. In addition to Cassian's journey, the prequel series is also building on Mothma's story to break free from the Empire.
While her powerful speech was moving, Star Wars fans might have recognised it from another animated show Star Wars Rebels. This was not the first time that Mothma has stood up against the Empire in a moving speech and her strong notions are also echoed in Rebels' speech, which was not included in Season 2.
More on Mothma's excluded Rebels speech in Andor Season 2 in our story.
What part of Mon Mothma's speech was left out in Andor Season 2? Exploring her story arc from Star Wars Rebels
While Mon Mothma's speech in Andor Season 2 was moving, Star Wars fans know it was incomplete. After her denouncement of the Ghorman massacre, Mon Mothma gave another speech to unite different rebel armies and unify against the Empire.
However, while Andor did not broadcast this other speech, it is important to understand Mon Mothma's journey in the Rebel Alliance. This speech can be heard in Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Episode 18, when Mothma is trying to get to Yavin 4.
While Mothma sets out for Yavin 4 with the Gold Squadron, her transport is destroyed by Grand Admiral Thrawn and she is forced to take refuge aboard the Ghost to complete her journey to Yavin 4. On board, she made another speech that perfectly aligns with her current story in Andor Season 2.
Parts of Mothma's speech from Star Wars Rebels echoed what is already shown in Andor, where she blames Palpatine and the Empire for the destruction of people across the Galaxy.
However, the conclusion of her speech in Rebels is different and more hopeful. She uses her words to suggest that there are many rebel groups across the Galaxy that can be united and used to stand against the Empire.
Why did Andor Season 2 not show Mon Mothma's speech from Star Wars Rebels?
While including Mon Mothma's speech from Rebels would have perfectly aligned her story in Andor Season 2, it was not included. This is because the show does not aim to highlight Mothma's skills as a powerful orator or a politician.
While her speech in Rebels was more moving and powerful, it was a political move used by Mothma to motivate the people aboard Ghost and strike against the Empire. But her current story in Andor did not want to show her as a politician, but as a rebel, standing up against the Empire.
In her speech, she strongly denounced Palpatine and the Ghorman massacre, making it more about her rebellion than her politics.
While Season 2 did not show Mothma's Rebels speech, it included a silent nod. Kleya informs Cassian that the rebels want Mothma to give another speech to rewrite her denouncement into a cry for help from other rebel groups (hinting at Rebels speech).
