Slow Horses star Jack Lowden is stepping up for another highly anticipated series with Apple TV+, which will be based on Philip Kerr’s bestselling Berlin Noir book series.
Currently untitled, the adaptation is being developed by Peter Straughan, with BAFTA nominee Tom Shankland as director and executive producer. Along with Straughan and Shankland, the adaptation will also be executive produced by Jane Tranter, Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman for PlayTone and Dan McCulloch & Ryan Rasmussen for Bad Wolf.
The copyright for the Berlin Noir novel series is currently with Kerr's widow, novelist Jane Thynne.
Jack Lowden will star as the protagonist and detective Bernie Gunther in the historical crime adaptation, which features multiple books. The upcoming Berlin Noir series will primarily adapt Kerr's Metropolis. While the book is the last in the novel series, it is set in 1928 (before the events of the series) and features the origin story of Bernie Gunther.
Unlike Kerr's novel series, Straughan's adaptation will likely follow a linear pattern and will cover the events of the book series chronologically.
