Fox has dropped the first teaser for Best Medicine. It looks like a fish-out-of-water comedy with a twist in this American version of Doc Martin. Dr. Martin Best is portrayed by Josh Charles, who is well-known for his Emmy-nominated performance in The Good Wife. In this show, he plays a Boston surgeon of the highest caliber, but his behavior needs to change. In the teaser, Charles's Dr. Best is seen setting foot in a New England fishing village. It sure isn't the sterile halls of a Boston hospital. The locals dub him "Doc Martin." He replies, "Dr. Best, actually." It's the same dry humor that made the OG British series (starring Martin Clunes) a cult classic. So read on to know all we do from the teaser! What happens in the Best Medicine teaser? The trailer shows us that Dr. Best is blunt and arrogant about "silly little festivals" and town gossip. It also shows a gifted but socially inept doctor among quirky villagers. But the new show swaps Cornwall for the fictional East Coast town where Martin spent childhood summers. His Aunt Sarah (Young Sheldon's Annie Potts) welcomes him back, while a schoolteacher, Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer), tries to break the ice.Cast and production team behind Best MedicineJosh Segarra (The Big Door Prize) plays the goofy and lovable town sheriff. Cree plays Elaine Denton, the doctor's bumbling but well-meaning assistant. The cast also has Didi Conn, Clea Lewis, Stephen Spinella, and (as a reference to the OG show) Martin Clunes plays Dr. Best's father, Robert Best.RELATED: Is Martin Clunes joining the US remake of Doc Martin?Behind the scenes, the adaptation producers are Ben Silverman (The Office), Liz Tuccillo (Sex and the City), Rodney Ferrell, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite. Tuccillo also penned the series, understanding that the heart of Doc Martin is in its chaos. View this post on Instagram Instagram PostThe show hints at darker undertones. Dr. Best's sarcastic behavior hides a phobia and isolation. So, while the locals are a handful, they might just be the "best medicine" he never prescribed himself, right?Fox is betting big on this new medical drama as part of its 2025–26 TV lineup. The move fits with the network's wave of smart, character-driven dramedies of late. Filming took place in upstate New York, specifically in Cornwall, New York. For fans of the original, there's familiarity: the grumpy doctor, the eccentric villagers, the emotion beneath that sarcasm. But Best Medicine promises an American rhythm, and Josh Charles's signature delivery.
