America's Got Talent Season 20: Cole Swensen and his mother impressed the judges and the audience
One of the performances on America's Got Talent Season 20 auditions was by Cole Swensen. His rendition of Viva La Vida by Coldplay left the judges and the audience stunned. As his performance ended, everyone cheered for him.
One of the judges, Mel B, said that Cole made that song "his own" and that he had a "distinctive" tone. Sofia stated it was "amazing" to see a family coming together and that it made her emotional.
Before getting to share his actual thoughts, America's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell mentioned that if Cole had arrived alone, his performance would have been "really good." Everyone was shocked to hear that, because Cole's mother playing cello caught everyone's hearts.
Soon, Simon added:
"However, with your mom, it was a great audition. It made everything...way...I don't know...way more interesting and actually made you, in my opinion, very cool to do that, because you're not following the herd."
Simon added that doing what Cole had did made him "stand out." His mother agreed to that and looked at Cole in agreement. She also whispered to Cole, "I told you," which both Sophia and Mel B noticed.
After getting four yeses, as Cole and his mom were leaving the stage, he got emotional. Later, the judges discussed how his mom whispered to him when Simon was telling him about following his own path.
