Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 3 recap: Yeon Ji-young is kept in a secret prison

Episode 3 of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty kicks off with King Lee-heon's wound being treated in Consort Kang's presence. The royal physician informs the King that an unknown ointment was put on his wound to stop the bleeding, whihc ultimately saved his life.
If we go back to Episode 1, it was Ji-young who put Vaseline on Lee-heon's wound, but since she's in the Joseon dynasty, no one knows about it. But at least, the King remembered that she saved his life.
Later, Consort Kang tries hard to learn where the female ghost (Ji-young) is kept, but the King keeps it a secret. Turns out that Ji-young is locked up inside a hidden prison in the palace along with Gil-geum.
Though Consort Kang couldn't discover where Ji-young had been kept, she managed to steal the arrowhead that injured the king and sent it to Prince Jesan, the one scheming against him. While Mok-ju and Prince Jesan are secretly plotting against Lee-heon in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, Episode 3 also features a clash between cooks at the royal kitchen.
It's been two weeks since the chief royal cook died, and now a new chef needs to take over. So, Chef Eom and Chef Maeng start fighting for the position of chief cook. With so much going on, King Lee-heon's grandmother, Dowager Queen, questions if his recent actions are linked to his mother's demise.

Ji-young's French cuisine changes everything in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 3

The story continues in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 3 as Consort Kang tries to use Song-jae against Ji-young, but he grows tired of her control. That night, Ji-young and Gil-geum are mysteriously freed, only to be caught in a performance led by King Lee-heon himself, who even invited a group of the best skit performers in the village.
While Gil-geum and Ji-young were amazed to see the celebration, Ji-young didn't stop arguing with the King. In return, he threatens to torture Gil-geum, forcing Ji-young to bend on her knees and agree to do whatever the king desires.
Lee-heon succeeds in her plan and orders Ji-young to cook. But before that, Lee-heon slipped a note to the actors’ leader in secret, asking him to find out about the rebel who attacked him. And then he waits for Ji-young to return with food.
Ji-young is amazed to look at the royal kitchen and even takes Gil-geum with her. The two start preparing for a French-style three-course meal from venison. Ji-young uses deer meat for this dish, and luckily, she specializes in it.
After the cuisine is all prepared, Ji-young takes the food to feed the King. Soon after tasting the haute cuisine for the first time, King Lee-heon is moved by a dish that reminds him of his late mother.
With every bite he takes in Episode 3 of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, his harshness softens. And for the first time, King Lee-heon stops Conscort Kang from entering the room. This leaves Ji-young uneasy, as she suspects the King might be alluding to the one night together he had mentioned earlier.
Ji-young becomes the chief royal cook and is offered a secret deal in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 3

Despite impressing the King with her French dish, nothing changes for Ji-young until she's called to the royal court in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 3. But before that, Song-jae offered her a deal that night, asking her to tell everything about the King's meal and the conversation they would have.
Ji-young might look a bit dumb, but she's from 2025 and is even aware of the history of King Lee-heon and the evil figures in the palace, including Consort Kang Mok-ju. Instead of agreeing to protection, Ji-young asks Song-jae to find her handbag with everything inside it.
Song-jae agrees, and they have a deal now. Meanwhile, the Consort Kang arranges cruel tricks through Cook Maeng to drive Yeon Ji-young out. Back at the court, the ministers demand the beheading of Ji-young as they believe she's a witch, thanks to Mok-ju for spreading more rumors about Ji-young.
King Lee-heon then mentions that he will decide about Ji-young and startled everyone by announcing that Yeon Ji-young is now the chief royal cook. However, this great position comes with a chilling warning: repeating any dish or displeasing the King will result in her execution.
Though Ji-young and Gil-geum move into better quarters, the kitchen sabotage continues. Ji-young cleverly flips the pressure onto the male cooks by warning that the king holds them accountable for his meals. Consort Kang, not ready to stop, convinces the Dowager Queen to test Ji-young with a cooking contest against senior chefs. The punishment for failure is losing an arm.
King Lee-heon learns about the competiton and steps in. Since the cutting of the arm rule was only applied to Ji-young, he declares that this now applies to all, making the cook-off fair but deadlier than ever.
The episode ends on this tense note, with Ji-young now at the centre of palace intrigue in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. One mistake in her cooking could cost her not just her role, but one of her arms.
