Blue Bloods spinoff series, Boston Blue, has recently premiered and has already gained fans' attention. The new series brought back the beloved Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg. However, he is not in New York anymore and has decided to stay in Boston for his son, Sean.
While the spinoff introduces several new characters, there were some faces that were a part of the original series. This made the fans curious about seeing more characters from the OG series. For instance, Danny's son is in the show, and his sister also appeared in the premiere episode, making us think whether we would see more Reagans in the series, especially Tom Selleck, who plays Danny's father, Frank Reagan.
While talking to Parade, Wahlberg revealed that he did contact Selleck for the show, and while he supported Wahlberg's decision to do the show, he also shared that he would only appear in the show when the time is right and his character has a meaningful reason to appear in Boston Blue.
More on this in our story.
Will Tom Selleck reprise his role in Boston Blue? Donnie Wahlberg's comments on his possible comeback
In Boston Blue, Donnie Wahlberg's Danny went to Boston for his son, who has now officially joined the police force as well. In Episode 2, Danny also made his decision to stay in Boston and closer to his son. Other than that, another detail that excited fans about the spinoff series was Danny and Maria's relationship status.
It was revealed that the duo had started dating and will have to endure a long-distance relationship due to Danny's decision to stay in Boston. While Mrisa Ramirez, who plays Maria, is revealed to be appearing more in Season 1 of Boston Blue, the same cannot be said for Tom Selleck, the Commissioner and Danny's father.
In the Parade interview, Danny revealed that he talked to Selleck after he decided to do the show and that the veteran actor had been supportive of his decision. He stated:
"I spoke to Tom the minute I was deciding if this was something I was going to do. And I can’t really get into the details of those conversations, but he’s been very supportive."
He further shared that he would love to have him in the show, but Selleck's decision to appear in Boston Blue depends on how his story would make sense and whether the timing is right. He also stated that whenever Selleck would decide to appear, they would create the best idea that would make him want to join the spinoff series. He said:
"I can say, would I love for Tom to come up to Boston? Sure. Or would I love Danny to go to New York and visit Frank? Absolutely, yes. Tom’s always going to base his decisions on the work and material, and so yes, of course, I’d love to work with him on the show, and when the time comes, we will hopefully craft an idea that moves his heart and makes him want to do it."
While the probability of Tom Selleck appearing on the show might take longer, several of the other Blue Bloods characters are said to appear in cameo roles in Boston Blue. Other than Marisa, Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin, Danny's sister, has also appeared in the spinoff series.
Along with Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green, Gloria Reuben, and Mika Amonsen are among the various actors who appear in the spinoff series of Blue Bloods.
