Building the Band host AJ McLean welcomed the three finalist bands. It included: 3QUENCY, SZN4, and Iconyx.
"They have given insight and heart, and tonight they will carry the weight of choosing the winner. No pressure, y'all," said the host.
He also welcomed the judges: Kelly Rowland, Liam Payne, and Nicole Scherzinger. The host then revealed that each of the bands will deliver one performance, followed by an elimination. Later, the two remaining bands will battle it out for the "crown."
3QUENCY was up first. Before their performance, the girl group discussed how their dancing skills were a plus point for them. They shared that for the finals, they would perform Have Mercy. As Wennely confessed to the cameras, their performance would focus on both vocals and choreography.
During rehearsals, they were surprised by their family members. It was an emotional moment for all of them. As 3QUENCY performed, everyone cheered for them. Judges were also enjoying their dancing plus musical performance. Nicole and Liam also gave the group a standing ovation.
"I don't know what to say," said Liam.
Kelly said the group "ate" the stage up.
"In the beginning, it was cute, like some cute kittens. You're like, yeah, we got potential. We're cute. You know, but now y'all have, like, the eye of the tiger," said Nicole.
The next performance was from Iconyx. They performed NSYNC's Bye Bye Bye. Liam said their performance was "amazing," while Nicole said she couldn't recognize them. Third performance was from SZN4. They performed Rag'n'Bone Man's Human. All three judges gave a standing ovation for their energetic performance.
"There's just something special about this group. It's brought something out in us, you know. They pull at your heartstrings, they cut straight to the core," said Nicole.
After the first performances, judges were in a dilemma as they had to make the "tough" decision. The two bands that were selected for the finale were:
- 3QUENCY: Nori, Brianna, and Wennely
- SZN4: Donzell, Aaliyah, Katie, and Cameron
It meant Iconyx's journey on Building the Band ended before the finals.
