FX has officially greenlit Cry Wolf, a limited series starring Olivia Colman and Brie Larson. The show is an English language adaptation of the Danish series Ulven Kommer, which came out in 2020.
The program has been labeled as a family psychological thriller, which deals with the concept of domestic violence and abuse. Larson stars as a mother whose daughter alleges abuse at her hands.
On the other hand, Colman plays a social worker who is tasked with finding out the truth about the situation. Both actresses have won Academy Awards in their careers, which makes their collaboration in Cry Wolf an exciting affair.
What is Cry Wolf about?
Cry Wolf is inspired by the Danish mystery drama Ulven Kommer and revolves around two women who find themselves in a tricky situation. When a young girl alleges that she is struggling with domestic abuse, her mother and a social worker end up in a crisis. The official synopsis of the show reads:
“A social worker and a mother thrust into crisis when the mother’s teenage daughter alleges abuse, pushing both women to their limits as they navigate an impossible situation.”
The show went into development in February with Olivia Colman confirmed as the lead. On July 16, 2025, FX officially greenlit the series as Brie Larson came onboard to play the co-lead. The premiere date of the show has not been announced as of now.
Who stars in Cry Wolf?
Currently, Olivia Colman and Brie Larson are the only confirmed cast members. Larson stars as the mother of the teen, while Colman plays the social worker who gets involved with the family. Both actresses also serve as executive producers on the project. They previously worked with FX as guest stars in the hit series The Bear.
Colman is an accomplished actress with several accolades to her name. She is known for starring in Netflix’s The Crown, BBC One’s Accused, BBC Two’s Beautiful People, and ITV’s Broadchurch. Her performance in the 2018 film The Favourite earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Larson is also an Academy Award winner, known for playing Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kit in Unicorn Store, Tess Petty in Fast X, and Amy Phillips in The Gambler. Her television credits include Lessons in Chemistry, Community, and United States of Tara.
The original Danish series starred Bjarne Henriksen, Flora Ofelia Hofmann Lindahl, Christine Albeck Børge, Peter Plaugborg, Noah Storm Otto, and Lila Nobel in pivotal roles. Cry Wolf has been written by Sarah Treem. She will also act as the showrunner and executive produce the series. Treen has previously worked on some popular shows like House of Cards and The Affair.
