Dear X Webtoon has reached new heights with the release of the adaptation on TVING and HBO. The thriller K-drama adaptation premiered on November 6, 2025, and can be watched on TVING and HBO Max. The series has become one of the popular K-dramas upon its release. It follows the story of Baek Ah-jin, played by Kim Yoo-jung, a top actress and master manipulator with a tragic past.

While Yoo-jung is being lauded for her performance, the K-drama has also achieved a new feat. It was reported by Naver Webtoon that after the release of the adaptation on TVING and HBO Max, the original Dear X webtoon gained a sudden momentum and popularity. It was revealed that not just domestically, but in North America and Taiwan, the original webtoon also saw an increase in popularity.

More on this in our story.

Dear X Webtoon gained more popularity after the original adaptation release on TVING and HBO Max

Dear X is adapted from Vanziun's webtoon, which is also the writer of the adaptation with Choi Ja-won. The story of the thriller K-drama follows Baek Ah-jin, who has endured domestic abuse as a child and has learned to hide her emotions and manipulate people around her with her sweet nature. As the K-drama unfolds, we learn more about Ah-jin's past and how she still uses her manipulative techniques as a top actress.

The K-drama addresses issues of child abuse and its lasting effects vividly through Ah-jin's story as she is first abused by her alcoholic mother and then stepmother and father, which shaped her dark personality, where she finds herself unable to be a normal human being.

Actress Kim Yoo-jung has been receiving a lot of praise from viewers for portraying the chilling and psychopathic personality of Ah-jin shown in the Webtoon. Therefore, this might be one of the reasons why the release of the adaptation might have helped the Dear X webtoon, which premiered in 2019 and concluded in 2020, in gaining sudden popularity.

As per YNA, the Naver Webtoon data released on November 13, 2025, showed an increase in popularity for the original webtoon. It revealed that compared to the week before the teaser for the series was released, the webtoon's popularity rose 17 times in the week the K-drama was released on a domestic platform.

However, the biggest increase in momentum was in the International platform, as Webtoon's North American platform saw a 40 times increase in popularity. Additionally, it also reached Number 2 in Taiwan's ranking based on popularity.

Along with Yoo-jung's performance, the K-drama has also received various positive reviews for a perfect ensemble cast to bring the beloved webtoon characters to life. Furthermore, the episode released so far follows the webtoon story accurately, making it another reason for gaining popularity with viewers who have read the Dear X webtoon and also found a new audience through the adaptation.

Along with Kim Yoo-jung, the K-drama also stars No Gain No Love's Kim Young-dae, Lee Yul-eum, Kim Do-hoon, Bae Soo-bin, Kim Ji-young, and Kim Yi-kyung.
