The show is based on Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Danish novel series Department Q. Developed by Scott Frank and Chandni Lakhani, it stars Matthew Goode as Carl Morck, along with Chloe Pirrie as Merritt Lingard, Leah Byrne as Rose, Kelly Macdonald as Dr. Rachel Irving, and Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim.

The cast also includes Jamie Sives as Detective Chief Inspector James Hardy, Mark Bonnar as Stephen Burns, Kate Dickie as Detective Chief Superintendent Moira Jacobson, Shirley Henderson as Claire Marsh, and Tom Bulpett as William Lingard. The official synopsis of the series by Netflix reads:
