Fox Network's 'Memory of a Killer' is finally moving forward, according to Deadline's latest update. Michaela McManus is the latest actress to join the cast of the Fox show, which is already stacked with other notable actors, including Odeya Rush, Michael Imperioli, Richard Harmon, and Patrick Dempsey. The thriller drama series has a unique plot that adapts De Zaak Alzheimer (La Memoire Du Tueur), an acclaimed 2003 Belgian movie.
Memory of a Killer's protagonist is Patrick Dempsey's Angelo Doyle, a hitman. However, he is hiding a deadly secret; Doyle has developed early symptoms of dementia. It is in this turbulent period that he develops a romance with Michaela McManus's Nicky, the Silverstrand Club's manager.
Fox has already greenlit Memory of a Killer for a series:
While De Zaak Alzheimer was already adapted in 2022 for the big screen with a movie titled Memory, which starred Liam Neeson. The movie was directed by Martin Campbell and had a screenplay by Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane. But the movie failed both critically and commercially, and therefore, Memory of a Killer is the second attempt at the adaptation of the 2003 Belgian movie.
Fox announced the series during the Upfront presentation this May. Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn said this in the Upfront presentation:
“’Memory of a Killer’ is a propulsive series with a noisy, unrelenting character hook that immediately grabbed our attention. In the spirit of ’24’ and ‘House,’ we’re introducing a daring new signature Fox lead, a complicated antihero facing unimaginable danger. We’re excited to bring this gripping new thriller to life alongside our long-standing partners at Warner Bros.”
It was confirmed that the series has been scheduled to release somewhere between the 2025-2026 season. However, considering Michaela McManus's addition, it looks like the series will release sometime early next year.
What is the Fox show about?
As mentioned earlier, the protagonist of the series is Patrick Dempsey's Angelo Doyle a hitman who has kept his recent dementia diagnosis a secret. Supporting him are different characters like his best friend, Dutch (Michael Imperioli), a chef whose restaurant is a front for a criminal organisation, and the romantic interest, Nicky. The official synopsis of the series reads:
"Inspired by the 2003 award-winning Belgian film De Zaak Alzheimer (La Memoire Du Tueur), Memory of a Killer is a dramatic thriller about a hitman who develops early onset Alzheimer’s. Losing your memory is a devastating hammer blow for anyone, but for Angelo Ledda, the stakes couldn’t be higher. His hit man job would be perilous enough, but there’s an added pressure. Angelo lives two totally separate lives — fearsome NYC hitman and sleepy upstate Cooperstown photocopier salesman and father. Having built and maintained a brick wall between his two worlds, Angelo has seamlessly juggled and compartmentalized for years. But now that’s all about to change. Because Alzheimer’s is a foe he can’t outrun, and he knows too well how this ends, as his older brother is already lost to the condition. Angelo is exceptionally resourceful and talented, the best of the best. But he’s about to be tested like never before — and now every minute counts. This is only made more difficult when he discovers that his wife’s recent death may not have been an accident. So, when someone comes after his daughter — who is pregnant — it’s clear the wall between his lives has been breached. Angelo must stop whoever’s coming for his family by searching his past hits for clues, and the list is very long. Now Angelo must hunt down his mortal enemy while continuing to carry out hits without giving away his diagnosis and still making it home in time to cook dinner for his daughter. Memory of a Killer is a redemptive story about a man who is losing his memory but gaining a conscience. Because Angelo knows he must stop history from repeating itself and save his family — before he forgets the past."
There is a lot of hype behind the Fox show because of the acclaimed 2003 source material and Patrick Dempsey's presence.
