Head Over Heels episode 1 kicks off with the introduction of Park Seong-ah, performing a ritual at her shrine to free a man from an evil spirit. She spent the whole night performing the ritual and forgot she had an exam tomorrow.

This way, the K-drama highlights Seong-ah's double life and the struggle she's facing while living as a high school student during the day, and a young shaman named Fairy Cheonji at night.

One thing that Seong-ah has been dreaming of is nothing but an ordinary life. She's willing to join a college after her school, but her grades don't promise her a prestigious institution.

Additionally, Seong-ah's only confidant is Pyo Ji-ho, her friend who helps her balance her unusual responsibilities with school life. The real turning point happens when Gyeon-u’s grandmother brings him to Seong-ah’s shrine. The moment Seong-ah sees him, she develops a crush on him and learns that the boy is doomed to die in 21 days.

Not long after, Gyeon-u shows up as a student in her class, just as her vision hinted. But he’s a skeptic; he doesn’t buy into shamanism and thinks Seong-ah is putting on an act. Still, she quietly places protective amulets near him, trying to keep him safe without making him suspicious.

Things quickly get intense in the premiere of Head Over Heels when a water ghost targets Gyeon-u in the school restroom, just like it had attacked another student. Seong-ah jumps in to fight it off using sacred water, risking herself to save him.

But instead of being grateful, Gyeon-u is irritated and confused, refusing to believe what just happened or why she’s so determined to protect him.

Gyeon-u still tries to stay away from Seong-ah, thinking her presence only makes things worse. But she doesn’t give up. With Ji-ho’s help, she sneaks a protective charm into his phone case, hoping to keep him safe quietly.

When Gyeon-u’s grandmother, Ok-soon, visits the school, she instantly recognizes Seong-ah as the famous Earth and Heaven Fairy. She invites her and Ji-ho over for lunch, where Seong-ah quietly places charms around the house and learns more about Gyeon-woo’s past and his lost dreams in archery.

Back at school, rumors spread that Gyeon-u caused a fire at his old school. Things turn scary when the ghost of someone who died in that fire tries to attack him. Seong-ah helps spiritually, but it’s Ji-ho who puts out the flames and saves them.

Later, Seong-ah learns Gyeon-u once reported himself for the fire, though no one proved he did it. Then comes a shocking moment: she realizes Ok-soon is already dead. At her funeral, Seong-ah shows up in full shaman attire to honor her last wish, even as Gyeon-woo, full of pain, pushes her away.
