Netflix's House of Guinness ended with a thrilling cliffhanger, which will surely make fans anticipate Season 2. The show revolved around the Guinness siblings taking over their father's successful business after his death. However, this also brings enemies to the fore, who just want to see the siblings fail in their ventures.

The animosity in the Netflix series is between the Guinness siblings and the Cochranes, who want a free Ireland, opposing Arthur's conservative views of bringing Ireland together under British rule. This causes the Fenian Brotherhood leader to take a drastic step and assassinate the budding politician in the finale. While Patrick successfully fires a shot in the Rally, it is not shown whether he killed Arthur or not.

The historical drama series ended with a cliffhanger, but if we look into history, Arthur Guinness did not die at a young age; rather, he became a successful politician and died at the age of 75. However, it is yet to be confirmed if Steven Knight's show will follow these historical facts.

More on this in our story.

Was Arthur Guinness assassinated in House of Guinness? Details explored in depth

Historically, the real Arthur Guinness, on whom Anthony Boyle's character is based in House of Guinness, did not die like this. The real Arthur had a prolific political career that spanned several years of his life. He died in 1915, at the age of 75.

While in the show, he is seen just at the beginning stages of his political career. In the last episode of House of Guiness, Patrick comes back to Dublin after being forcibly sent to New York. With his arrival, a threat to the Guinness family had also arrived as he decided to assassinate Arthur Guinness, which would also mean sacrificing his own life. This scares her sister Ellen, who does not want anyone to die, especially her brother.

Therefore, she tells Rafferty, the Guinness family's fixer, bodyguard, and factory foreman, about Patrick's decision. She pleads with him to spare his life and promises to let them arrest him if she finds him in the rally crowd. In the rally, while the Guinness family sits united, showing their support to their brother, Patrick sneaks into the crowd during a commotion and aims.

The series with Patrick taking the shot does not reveal whether Arthur dies or not. As per historical facts, Arthur might have survived. While talking to DECIDER, creator Steven Kinght shared that he had no idea who was hit by the bullet that Patrick had fired. He quipped:

"That bullet, I don’t yet know where it goes."

His comment hints at the possibility that any of the Guinnesses or their allies might get hit by the bullet fired by Patrick.

More about House of Guinness' ending

While House of Guinness did not reveal whether Arthur dies or not, Knight's comments suggest that someone would be hit by Patrick's bullet. Arthur Guinness is a historical figure, but in the series, Knight has created several fictional characters, which include the Cochranes and Rafferty as well.

If the series is renewed and comes back with a season 2, it might be shown that someone else took the bullet instead of Arthur. However, nothing about this has been confirmed yet, and it's a speculation.

House of Guinness stars Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, Seamus O'Hara, and Fionn O'Shea, among several others, and is now streaming on Netflix.
