One of the most endearing (and also creepy) characters in Wednesday Season 2 is, hands down, our very own Agnes DeMille. Nobody can forget the teen's signature look from the start of the season — her auburn hair, which exactly replicates Wednesday's hairdo. And oh yes, those startling green eyes brimming with hope and craving.
At the beginning of Season 2, Agnes is established as a young student in Nevermore who is fangirling all over Wednesday. She is endowed with the ability to disappear, so she uses it to take her obsession for Wednesday several notches higher. Her whole world revolved around Wednesday. She would desperately try to gain her trust, impress her, and become like her.
But then, towards the end, something changes. Agnes, a girl who used to hide in the shadows, finally finds her true herself. She bravely emerges from the clingy wanna-be Wednesday to the real Agnes DeMille that we get to witness.
Keep reading to find out more about Agnes' transformative and emancipatory journey of finding her individuality in Wednesday Season 2.

The heroic journey of truth and selfhood — Agnes DeMille in Wednesday Season 2

The tale of Agnes in Wednesday Season 2 is reminiscent of the metamorphic journey of a butterfly. Showcasing her journey in this popular series was much needed, as a lot of people can undoubtedly resonate with her at some level. Her identity crisis, hunger for love and validation, and feeling lost in a crowd — these are the feelings many people, be it teens or adults, feel at some point.
At the onset of Season 2, Agnes is showcased as a vanisher student who has immense admiration for Wednesday. In order to carve a spot in the cold heart of Wednesday, she would go to any lengths. Good for Agnes, since her vanishing ability has helped her immensely to achieve her motives.
Agnes, in an attempt to impress Wednesday, performs the most sinister pranks possible. She even risked Enid and Bruno's lives. She also attempted to burn Wednesday's two years of hard work into ashes, by placing her novel at the Founder's pyre. Thankfully, both Enid and Bruno, as well as the novel, were saved.
However, Agnes' sharp intelligence and skills are undoubtedly noteworthy in Wednesday Season 2. Her pranking skills did manage to startle Wednesday. It goes without saying that Agnes, too does has a kooky, dark, and dangerous streak to her personality. Soon, Agnes begins assisting Wednesday in her investigations, much to the dismay of Enid.
Agnes dedicates her life to Wednesday in order to gain her friendship. She would do all the everyday tasks for her — pick up her coffee, her mail, etc. Agnes even begins emulating Wednesday quite literally. She trespasses on Wednesday's boundaries by stealing clothes from her closet and wearing them, along with donning fake black hair.
Agnes is then knocked into her senses when Wednesday calls her out by saying, "You failed." At that moment, Agnes crumbles down, and her world gets completely shattered. Actually, this is the moment that marks a new world and life for Agnes, even though in a brutal manner.
Later, Enid, who always used to dislike Agnes, warms up to her when she finds her sobbing. They get into an insightful conversation, when Enid gives her the golden advice that changes everything. She says to Agnes:
"One Wednesday Addams is more than enough in this world. If you're tired of being invisible, stop hiding in other people's personalities. Be your own psycho, Agnes. Trust me, you'll be good at it."
That poignant moment flipped a switch of realization in Agnes in Wednesday Season 2. She then removes the faux black hair, and her real ginger hair shows. Soon enough, Enid and Agnes join together to perform a beautiful dance at the gala. Agnes, at the event, wears a beautiful emerald dress. She transforms into the Agnes we never saw before — her hair no longer tied in braids. Her curls now flow freely like a boundless river, much like how Agnes is now.
When Wednesday sees Agnes at the gala, she remarks in her classic razor-sharp tone:
"Finally, some originality."
To which, a now assertive and confident Agnes replies:
"I don't care what you think about me anymore."
Wednesday then says: "Good", to which Agnes smiles and says: "What's the plan?"
There is a slight, not-so-obvious glimmer of pride felt in Wednesday's face in the scene. But of course, she does not make it apparent. This entire moment carries the power of healing something in the viewer's mind. Agnes finds her authentic self, her relationship with Wednesday gets repaired, and she also finds a new friend in Enid.
Agnes' constant acts of servitude and attempts to gain validation are perhaps rooted in her unhealed childhood wounds. She does reveal at the end of Wednesday Season 2 about the abandonment caused by her parents, as her mother left her and began a new family with a normie. Agnes' father seems to be emotionally unavailable towards her.
However, this is the beautiful journey of Agnes — the vanished teenager who, despite being gifted with magical powers, resilience, and exceptional intelligence, struggles to experience very human feelings of conflict about her identity. We realize that, ultimately, she is just a lost, soft-hearted girl who craves warmth, love, and attention.
By the end of Wednesday Season 2, Agnes becomes her own true person who finally chooses to be kind and truthful towards herself. Now she is only a literal, physical vanisher, and not someone whose personality, identity, and existence itself used to vanish into oblivion. From being the annoying 'Little See-Through Suck-Up' as Enid would call her, Agnes finds light in her own self, in her own right, by being her own psycho.
Agnes DeMille is portrayed by actor Evie Templeton in Wednesday Season 2.
