James Gunn's Peacemaker Season 2 debuted with the exciting possibilities of alternate realities and the impending threat of ARGUS for our titular helmet-clad anti-hero, played by John Cena.

Chris Smith's Peacemaker world became even more chaotic and dangerous in the sophomore season, after he stumbled upon the quantum folding chamber, an extradimensional space that holds the key to all the different worlds in the DCU.

In Peacemaker Episode 4 of Season 2, titled “Need I Say Door,” James Gunn finally revealed the origin story of this mysterious device and how it was once possessed by an alien killed by Chris' father, Auggie Smith. While Chris' house was surrounded by ARGUS, he managed to escape just in time, thanks to Economus' heads-up. With the ARGUS agent's help, Chris managed to hide the quantum folding chamber by taking it with him and fleeing his house in Episode 4.

More on this in our story.

Exploring Chris' escape plan with the quantum folding chamber in Peacemaker Season 2

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 picked up right from the events of Episode 3, when ARGUS was closing in on Chris' house. While our helmet-wearing anti-hero's pet eagle stood his ground and secured Chris' house, ARGUS was hell-bent on finding Chris and the quantum folding chamber. However, the latest episode revealed that the Peacemaker once again escaped the clutches of ARGUS, thanks to an unlikely ally.

Episode 4 revealed that while ARGUS was on its way to Chris' house, the agents were bickering among themselves. While Economus is already facing a major dilemma between his friendship with Chris and his professional duty to ARGUS, he was further provoked by Bordeaux and Judomaster. However, Economus finally sorts out his priority in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4, and uses the chaos to send a cryptic warning to Chris, alerting him about ARGUS's impending arrival.

When Chris receives Economus' warning, he wastes no time and pulls out the alien device and flees his house with Eagly and the quantum folding chamber. While Judomaster managed to catch up to him in the woods, Peacemaker escaped, adding yet another defeat for ARGUS and Rick Flag Sr.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 ended with the quantum folding chamber still intact with our anti-hero. Additionally, he panic messaged Leota Adebayo and took the folded chamber in Setller's Hill, further securing it from ARGUS.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 revealed the quantum folding chamber's origin story

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4 also revealed that the quantum folding chamber is not one of Auggie Smith's inventions, and he happened on the device in the woods 30 years earlier. The recent episode featured a flashback to one of the hunting trips from Chris' past, where he was accompanied by his father, Auggie, and his brother, Keith. While hunting, the three of them encountered an animal, and Auggie bravely shot it.

However, when the trio approached the animal, it turned out to be a small alien creature. Even after Chris' protests, Auggie ruthlessly blew the creature's brains out and discovered a briefcase-like object near him. That object turned out to be the key to the interdimensional door, which Auggie found casually lying in the woods. While the flashback did not reveal the details, Auggie Smith likely kept the quantum folding chamber for himself, which holds the key to all the different worlds in the DCU.

With the quantum folding chamber's origin story in Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 4, James Gunn is expanding on the multiverse lore in the show. This only suggests that this device will continue to rule Chris' life and Peacemaker's narrative in the upcoming episodes.

While Rick Flag Sr.'s attempts to catch Chris is also an exciting parallel storyline, it will likely be resolved this season.
