Gen V Season 2 is almost a month away, and the marketing campaign is warming up slowly. The Prime Video series had a panel at San Diego Comic-Con where the cast discussed what fans could expect from the upcoming second season, which will begin streaming from this September. However, the discussion did turn to a more serious topic: that of Chance Perdomo.
For the uninitiated, Perdomo, who played the role of Andre Anderson in the first season, tragically passed away due to a motorcycle accident before he could join his fellow cast members for shooting Gen V Season 2. As soon as the news of his passing broke, the makers declared that Andre would not be recast for the second season.
Showrunner Michele Fazekas addressed Andre's character in the Gen V Season 2 at the Comic-Con.
What did Michele Fazekas say about Chance Perdomo's absence in Gen V Season 2?
Entertainment Weekly interviewed the cast and crew of Gen V Season 2 at SDCC, and in that interview, they addressed how Chance Perdomo's presence will be felt throughout the entire runtime of season 2. Revealing that the cast and crew of the series wanted to pay homage to the late actor, Michele Fazekas said this regarding Perdomo's role in the upcoming season:
"Just watching the show and watching even just the trailer for it...we did it so long ago and I remember being in the writer's room and talking about how important it was to honor him. And then when you watch the show, he exists throughout the entire season. It was, in many ways, about Andre and about Chance. And, yeah, I'm very proud of that actually."
Eric Kripke had also addressed this back in a May 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly. Revealing that Gen V Season 2 was almost rewritten to accommodate Perdomo's passing, Kripke said this:
"We were a week away from shooting when Chance passed away tragically. So we had to almost rethink everything, and in just a matter of weeks. But what I tell people when they say 'wow, that's really crazy or difficult' [is] that pales in comparison to what his friends and loved ones are going through. It's the least we could do."
These words show that the makers have a steadfast commitment to sticking to not recasting the role to honor the actor who made an impression on the viewers. Given what we saw in the two trailers, we can ascertain that Andre's father might be trying to uncover what happened to him. Given that the actor playing Andre isn't with us anymore, it is clear what happened to the character as well.
What is season 2 about?
From the trailers, it is clear that Marie, Emma, and Jordan are freed from their incarceration. The only one not freed is Andre, who is noticeably absent. In the second trailer for Gen V Season 2, we see Starlight saving Marie. After doing so, she hands Marie a mysterious mission, setting up the events of The Boys Season 5:
"In Season Two, school is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."
