I believe Countdown shouldn’t kill off this character if they want to follow a reasonable storyline

With the recent episode of Countdown titled, The Nail in the Chair, we might be in for a big shock again. In the episode, Eric Dane’s character, Agent Blythe, is stabbed by Anton Volchek and left to die.

The episode ended with the Special agent bleeding out in the alley and leaving us with a cliffhanger that we had already experienced in the earlier episodes of Countdown, when Jonathan Togo’s Agent Damon Drew was killed.

However, killing off Dane’s Blythe now, at a crucial point of the series, would not be reasonable enough, as that would entail the senior agents leading the Task Force leaving. The arrival of new agents, especially at this point in time in the series, would mess up the narrative, which is closer to being solved.

More on this in our story.

Special Agent Blythe’s death in Countdown will adversely affect the narrative of Season 1

In the recent episode of Countdown, we discovered Volchek’s plan of creating mayhem in LA by setting off nuclear weapons. With this information, Eric Dane’s character, Special Agent Nathan Blythe’s efforts, also increased tenfold to capture Volchek and stop him from going through with his perilous plan.

However, we are left with a cliffhanger of Blythe bleeding out after being stabbed by Volchek, after the LAPD officer had agreed to quietly meet Piskun in exchange for information regarding Volchek. This cliffhanger and the possibility of Blythe’s death lower the efforts put forth by the task force to catch Volchek by a notch.

While we are unsure about Blythe's survival, as the audience, we have already witnessed the death of an important character like Agent Drew early in the series. Therefore, this cliffhanger makes the story more twisted with no resolution in sight.

Since Blythe’s team is just about to reach Volchek, his death and the arrival of a new person in charge of the Task Force will wreck their plans and efforts to catch the criminal in question, who is planning a bigger and bolder attack on LA.

Furthermore, it will also impact the team’s dynamics as the current task force trusts each other, and as revealed by Blythe in the first 1 of Countdown, there might be corrupt officers present inside the FBI. If one of those officers is sent in to replace Blythe after his death, the team will be in massive trouble with clashes within.

Therefore, killing off Eric Dane’s character will be a step backward in catching Volchek rather than getting closer to him. Hopefully, in the upcoming episode of Countdown, we will see Blythe surviving the brutal attack, unlike Agent Drew, who lost his life in Episode 4 of Countdown, even with an intriguing storyline ahead.
