Netflix’s Weak Hero Class 2 premiered in April 2025, in which Park Ji-hoon’s Yeon Si-eun began his school year in a new school, Eunjang High. Initially, we saw Si-eun trying to control his anger and keep his head low to avoid fights with the bullies. However, he still makes friends, despite trying to keep himself away from people as much as possible.
These new friendships make it unavoidable for him to avoid fights, and he was involved in more brutal fights than in the last season. With the union and their leader, Na Baek-jin (Bae Na-ra), trying to do everything to make Eunjang a part of the union, Si-eun and his friends had to go to extreme lengths to defend themselves. Baek-jin made it really hard for Si-eun and the students of Eunjang, but amid the fight between the union and Eunjang High, I found Lee Jun-young’s Geum Seong-je more menacing and erratic, giving him a scarier villain vibe than Baek-jin.
Baek-jin was intelligent and an excellent fighter, making him one of the formidable characters of Weak Hero Class 2, but Seong-je’s volatile and ambiguous nature made him even more terrifying.
More on this in our story.
Seong-je’s unpredictability made him more dangerous than Baek-jin in Weak Hero Class 2
In Weak Hero Class 2, Lee Jun-young’s Seong-je represented Kanghak High, which was under the union, making him work for Baek-jin. This resulted in him getting involved with Si-eun and his friends as he tried to scare them so that Baku/Park Hu-min (Ryeoun) would join the union.
Seong-je noticed Si-eun’s skills the day they first met and was slightly impressed. Their fight later on the rooftop marked one of the most intense and unpredictable fights as they both displayed their skills. Seong-je even defended himself from Si-eun’s pen attack a couple of times until Si-eun successfully lodged his pen in his toe.
Not just fighting skills, Seong-je later also showed his impeccable manipulative skills when he led Si-eun into believing that he might be on their side. He saved Jun-tae (Choi Min-young) when he was caught by Baek-jin’s boys, which made Si-eun think that he might help them against Baek-jin. However, at the last moment, he betrayed Si-eun, revealing his manipulation skills.
I still think Seong-je did consider helping Si-eun out at first, but owing to his erratic personality, he backed out of it. The reason behind his behaviour, where we thought he might have a change of heart, could be due to Baek-jin’s behavior toward him. For instance, when Seong-je came back from the police station, Baek-jin only asked if he revealed anything about the union in front of the police. He looked stunned for a bit, as he noticed the union leader only thought about business, and treated him just like everybody else who helped him finish his dirty business.
While Baek-jin did everything by planning, Seong-je showed himself as someone who tried to distance himself from everything that Baek-jin stood for, as in the end he even rejected being the new leader of the union after Baek-jin’s death in the post-credit scene of Weak Hero Class 2. This ambiguous nature made Seong-je’s personality erratic, as we couldn’t guess what he might do next or if he was tending toward the good or bad side.
However, this unpredictability about Seong-je made him more terrifying, as even Si-eun couldn’t guess if he was on their side or not. If there were another season of Weak Hero, Seong-je becoming the main villain might make the story more exciting to watch.
All episodes of Weak Hero Class 2 are available for streaming on Netflix.
