In March 2025, the news of FBI: International’s cancellation shocked fans. The FBI spin-off was getting decent ratings, but it was cancelled along with its sister show, FBI: Most Wanted. As fans sought answers, CBS executives later revealed that they had to axe some shows to make way for new programs in the 2025-2026 schedule.

Now, over a month after the police procedural drama aired its finale, series co-creator Derek Haas has shared his feelings about its cancellation. In an interview with TVLine, Haas revealed that he was sad when he got to know about CBS’ decision, especially because he loved the lead Jesse Soffer’s performance as Wesley "Wes" Mitchell:

“I was so sad to hear about the cancellation because I loved Jesse Soffer as Wes on the show and really thought it was a dynamic cast addition in Season 4.”

During the interview, Derek Haas added that he has no idea why FBI: International was cancelled after four seasons. However, he said that he is still on good terms with CBS executives Amy Reisenbach, Eric Kim, and the production house Wolf Entertainment:

“I have no insight into why it was cancelled. I love Amy and Eric over at CBS, plus all my good friends at Wolf, and trust their instincts. So they must’ve had reasons that had nothing to do with the quality of the show.”

FBI: International revolved around the international Fly Team of the FBI, which worked in Europe and investigated crimes related to American citizens. The team was led by Luke Kleintank as Scott Forrester and Heida Reed as Jamie Kellett for the first three seasons, who were replaced by Jesse Lee Soffer as Wesley "Wes" Mitchell in the fourth season.

Since the show was cancelled abruptly, the creators didn't get a chance to give a proper farewell to the characters with a dedicated series finale, and instead, the season 4 finale ended with several open threads.

Along with FBI: International, other hit shows like FBI: Most Wanted and The Equalizer were also scrapped by CBS. Meanwhile, the mothership FBI series was renewed for an eighth season, and its new spin-off, CIA, was ordered, with Tom Ellis starring as the lead.

Amy Reisenbach talked about why the network chose to let go of FBI: International in a media interaction in May and revealed that they had to make a tough decision as the 2025-2026 release schedule was already full:

“It’s not easy to end shows, and we had a lot of options this year. The schedule is really full, and so we always have to look at all of our shows, look at the aggregate information, the creative of where they are in their life cycle, what the finances look like, what the ratings are, and then we make those tough decisions.”

Apart from Jesse Lee Soffer, the show starred Carter Redwood as Andre Raines, Eva-Jane Willis as Megan "Smitty" Garretson, Christiane Paul as Katrin Jaeger, Vinessa Vidotto as Cameron Vo, and Christina Wolfe as Amanda Tate. The show aired its final episode on May 20, 2025.
