"I’ve read two scripts already": Chad Powers Season 2 gets exciting new update from Steve Zahn

Hulu finally greenlit Chad Powers Season 2 early this month, and the production is supposedly beginning in January. The sports comedy series is about star quarterback Russ Holliday, whose mistake on the field ruins his career and reputation. Now, eight years later, Russ disguises himself using prosthetics for a second chance at football.

The Chad Powers Season 1 finale ended with an uneasy stalemate between the assistant coach, Ricky Hudson, and Russ. That's because Ricky figured out that Chad and Russ Holliday are one and the same. Therefore, the assistant coach threatens Russ that she will reveal his secret to the world, setting up the second season.

Now, Steve Zahn, who plays the head coach and Ricky's father, Jake Hudson, told ScreenRant's Ash Crossan that one of Chad Powers Season 2 episodes packs four hours of storyline into a half hour. Expressing his love for the cast and crew of the series, Zahn said:

"I love the show. I love Glen Powell, I love Michael Waldron. I’ve read two scripts already. It gets really microscopic, which is cool, because everybody’s in on it now. An episode might be four hours of real time packed into a half hour. It’s really fun."

What do Steve Zahn's comments mean for Hulu's Chad Powers Season 2?

It bodes well that one of Chad Powers' main cast members has liked two scripts of the second season. However, it should also be noted that an actor liking the script for one of their projects shouldn't be surprising. Also, it is unclear if the script for all episodes is complete or not. But based on what Zahn said, we now know that the script for at least two episodes is complete.

Thus, it isn't surprising that Chad Powers Season 2 will begin filming in January. As of now, all cast members from the first season are returning, and no new cast additions have been made for the upcoming season. However, this might change in the coming days.

What do we know about Chad Powers Season 2?

Details about the second season are scarce, as it hasn't started filming yet, and we may learn more only when the second season is about to be released. But Glen Powell and Michael Waldron teased potential storylines for Chad Powers Season 2 in an October 2025 Variety interview:

"It’s a make-or-break thing for me that the University of Texas be included. I told Waldron, ‘If I have to support the UGA football program and not the University of Texas one more time, I’m gonna break.'”

The popular sports comedy is about former quarterback Russ Holiday trying to reclaim his lost reputation after an on-field mistake. Almost a half-decade later, Russ decides to come back to football, but this time, he disguises himself under a different name, "Chad Powers."
