"Is this a Kdrama or a K trauma?" Fans heartbroken as Seong-ah’s spirit mother dies ahead of Head Over Heels finale

Soon after its premiere, TVN's latest K-drama, Head Over Heels, became a fan-favorite, gathering all the love from local and international fans. It stars School 2021 co-stars Cho Yi-hyun and Choo Young-woo in the leading role alongside Cha Kang-yoon.

The drama is about Park Seong-ah, a student and shaman, trying her best to save her first love, Bae Gyeon-woo, from his ill fate. While Seong-ah was able to break the 21-day curse, Yeom-hwa's rituals allowed a spirit to take over Gyeon-woo's body.

With just two episodes left to come out, fans are already heartbroken as one of the adored characters, General Dongcheon, aka Seong-ah's spirit mother, has died. She sacrificed herself to save Yeom-hwa from the Grim Reaper, leaving everyone devastated.

Fans on the internet couldn't stop themselves from revealing how they felt after watching General Dongcheon's final moments. A fan wrote:

How did General Dongcheon die in Head Over Heels? Her final moments in the K-drama, explained

Seems like fans aren't ready for the last two episodes of Head Over Heels, as the preview featured Seong-ah mentioning that she'll return before the graduation ceremony. This hints that she might temporarily disappear to save Gyeon-woo.

However, before the last two episodes came out, the K-drama featured the heartbreaking sacrifice of General Dongcheon. In Episode 10, Yeom-hwa performed to summon the Grim Reaper, but Bong-su ensured she ended up getting counter-cursed.

General Dongcheon knew that Yeom-hwa could not be stopped and that she might get herself killed while doing all the dark rituals. So, she became her human amulet, without telling Yeom-hwa.

And when Yeom-hwa realized what her former spirit mother did, it was already too late. The Grim Reaper took General Dongcheon's life in place of her evil spirit daughter. While this was devastating for Yeom-hwa as well, the one whose heart was broken into pieces is Park Seong-ah.

Seong-ah only had General Dongcheon as a parent, whom she always called "Eomeonim", the formal word for mother. But in a heartbreaking moment, as she held her one last time, Seong-ah broke down and cried out "Omma" for the first time, letting all her pain and love pour out.

The preview for Head Over Heels Episode 11 hints at a shocking twist: Yeom-hwa is ready to kill Seong-ah. Why? Because the only way to defeat the evil deity is through the death of the Heaven and Earth Fairy, which Seong-ah truly is.
