Is there a possibility of Letters from the Past Season 2? Here’s what we know

Letters from the Past premiered on Netflix on July 23, 2025. The Turkish drama has been able to transcend boundaries and has a global appeal with its heart-touching and emotional storyline.

The show revolves around a bunch of teenagers in 2003 who write letters to their future selves as part of a school assignment. However, 20 years later, these letters are discovered by Elif, the daughter of the literature teacher who had given the assignment.

This initiates a chain of events that brings out hidden traumas and secrets. The eight-episode series keeps the audience hooked throughout and leaves them asking for more. But will Letters from the Past return with new episodes? Well, as of now, the show has not been renewed for Season 2.

The possibility of Letters from the Past Season 2

At the time of writing, Letters from the Past Season 2 has not been greenlit by Netflix. Instead, the show has been billed as a limited series, which traditionally lasts for one season. The story of the show has also been contained in the first installment, and there are no loose ends left to be explored.

Hence, a second season of the series does not seem plausible. However, Netflix often analyses the show’s performance from a business point of view, and the streamer could still renew the series if the first season generates good profit for the company.

There have been instances in the past where limited series have been renewed for a number of seasons due to their popularity and audience demand. A few examples are The White Lotus, Beef, and Shogun.

If the series also turns out to be a success and breaks viewership records, Netflix might consider continuing it for more seasons. Thus, Letters from the Past is a limited series with grim chances of getting another season as of now, but we need to wait for an official confirmation from Netflix about its cancellation or renewal.

What is Letters from the Past about?

The series tells the story of Fatma Ayar, a school teacher who assigns her students a task: to write letters to themselves that they will be read 20 years from now. When Fatma’s daughter, Elif, finds these messages in 2023, she realizes her whole life was a lie, as she had been adopted.

In search of her real mother, she starts to deliver the letters to the former students, which makes their past collide with the present. The official logline for the show reads:

“A teacher's letter-to-the-future project resurfaces 20 years later when her daughter finds them, unearthing truths that upend lives — including her own.”

The series stars Günes Sensoy as Elif and Ipek Türktan as Fatma. The rest of the cast includes Banu Fotocan, Pelin Karahan, Onur Tuna, Yusuf Akgun, Selin Yeninci, and Gokce Bahadir. The main cast members are expected to return if the show gets renewed for a second season. The series has been created by Rana Denizer.
