New Year, New U, the Gen V Season 2 premiere opens with a scientist rushing through the corridor of a laboratory. It seems that he is trying to stop his colleagues from injecting themselves with a mysterious milky-looking blue liquid. His attempts fail as the scientists all die horrible, gratuitous deaths. The scientist who was running in the opening scene is none other than Thomas Godolkin.

After that, Ethan Slater's Thomas Godolkin doesn't appear in the other two episodes, and it is unclear if he died in the opening scene or not. While fans mistakenly believed that the opening scene takes place before he went on to establish Godolkin University. It must be noted that the university was canonically established in 1965, and the Gen V Season 2 opening scene takes place in 1967.

Thus, this scene might be Slater's only appearance in The Boys spin-off series. But a wild fan theory suggests that Thomas Godolkin is alive even in the present day of the Prime Video show.

Fans believe that the new Gen V character Dean Cipher is Thomas Godolkin:

As mentioned before, the opening scene from the first episode of Gen V Season 2 premiere takes place in 1967, and it is unclear if Thomas Godolkin survived this incident or not. But fan theories suggest that Godolkin, who is Fredrick Vought's right-hand man, managed to transfer his consciousness into another body and is currently living as Hamish Linklater's character Dean Cipher.

Fans point out Cipher's weird diet as a clue to his secret identity. Moreover, it must be noted that Cipher is very much a twisted version of Marvel's X-Men character Charles Xavier with the aggressive philosophy of Magneto. While the previous Dean, Indira Shetty, was an anti-supe figure with a plan to wipe out all powered individuals, Cipher seems to be on the opposite end of the spectrum, who hates humans.

The quote below Godolkin's statue reads "The path shall begin here where mortals become gods", and fans point to this quote to suggest that Fredrick Vought's aide was a fascist and supe supramacist like Dean Cipher. While this theory remains unconfirmed, this twist fits right into the nature of the show. It must also be noted that Cipher is the doctor who delivered Marie in the clinic.

The alias under which he delivered Marie is "Dr. Gold", a name very similar to "Godolkin". This is why many believe that the upcoming episodes of Gen V Season may shine more into his mysterious identity.

Others believe that Cipher might be Thomas Godolkin's son or a relative:

While one theory suggests that "Cipher's" body might be Thomas Godolkin's vessel, another theory posits that he is just the scientist's son. According to the theory, Thomas experimented on his newborn child, who ended up being the grown man referred to as "Cipher". Gen V's Dean Cipher actor Hamish Linklater hinted at the character's agenda in a ScreenRant interview:

"He’s trying to make a master race out of a master race. That’s his idea, and his tool is going to be Marie. He thinks she’s the one who’s going to give him supremacy over the other supremacist, Homelander."

According to Polarity actor Sean Patrick Thomas, season 2 will set up a resistance for The Boys Season 5:

Sean Patrick Thomas' Polarity seems to have a larger role this season. The last season revealed that continuous usage of his powers results in the formation of micro-tears in his neural pathways. Andre inherited his condition, which resulted in his death. Polarity is driven by revenge in this season, and he has joined Godolkin University.

The Polarity actor was interviewed by ScreenRant, which was published on September 18, 2025. According to Sean Patrick Thomas, Gen V Season 2 will set up a resistance front, which will play a key role in The Boys Season 5, which is also its last:

"Well, I think what season 2 sets up is that there is a resistance that is strong, a resistance that is determined and unified, and it’s going to be an exciting thing to see where that leads. Will this unified front finally be able to make change and to take care of Homelander?"

For now, only the first three episodes of Gen V Season 2 are available to stream on Prime Video. Binge them as we wait for the fourth episode streaming on September 24, 2025.
