Andy and Barbara Muschietti's IT: Welcome to Derry might be an IP-driven prequel, but it is turning out to be one of the more successful adaptations of Stephen King's IT series. Two episodes of the horror thriller have been released so far, and both episodes have been subject to positive reviews overall.

The third episode is set to release on November 9, getting back on the release schedule, which was changed for a special Halloween release. Recently, a trailer was released for the third episode, and apart from the horror theatrics, the trailer also revealed a special reference to another Stephen King adaptation.

IT: Welcome to Derry is reported to have more than a few callbacks to other Stephen King worlds. The trailer to the series had dropped some of these Easter eggs with a Shawshank State Prison bus and Dick Hollaran's character. One of these references was directly mentioned in the trailer for the third episode.

The past two episodes have chronicled the deaths of three kids by a mutant baby in a theater, and the owner of the theater, Hank Grogan, who is being wrongly blamed and arrested for these murders. The trailer features Hank Grogan, played by Stephen Rider, being asked:

"DO you know what they do to kiddy-killers in Shawshank?"

This is a direct reference to the Shawshank prison, which is a part of the fictional world in Stephen King's 1982 Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, which later went on to be adapted into the critically acclaimed The Shawshank Redemption.

The third episode of IT: Welcome to Derry will reportedly find Hank getting stuck deeper as the scapegoat for the horrors of Derry, while Lilly and Ronnie, the children who were present at the theater, try to prove his innocence.

Creator Andy Muschietti had previously teased that Shawshank Prison would be a part of the series, cementing the link. He also divulged some details about the prospective plotline involving the prison when he said:

"Shawshank is like, there's a character who is sent to prison, wrongfully accused, of course, in this world, and he is sent to Shawshank. Does he arrive to Shawshank? [If the character] was in Shawshank at that point of history he would have met Andy Dufresne and Red, but the question is does he arrive to Shawshank?"

So, even though Hank, in all probability, is the individual who is escorted into the bus to Shawshank Prison, Andy's comments suggest that he might not make it to the prison. However, it remains to be seen if the thing that stops him from reaching the prison is actually worse than the fate awaiting him in Shawshank Prison.

We'll have to wait until further episodes to discover Hank's fate in IT: Welcome to Derry.
