IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6, "In the Name of the Father", featured a major revelation about a character Lilly thought was reliable. We also learn where Hank Grogan is hiding after evading the police after his bus crashed in the last IT: Welcome to Derry episode.

The last scene of the episode also sets up the next entry, as the sixth one ends on a cliffhanger.

"Plagued by dark visions, Dick gets a surprise at the Black Spot. Meanwhile, the kids each face their own challenges."

IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6 recap:

Here's what happens in IT: Welcome to Derry Episode 6:

  • The 1935 prologue

This episode also opens with a prologue set in the past, like the third one. The flashback in this episode focuses on a younger Ingrid as a nurse at Juniper Hill in 1935. She accompanies this girl named Mabel to the Juniper basement, where the two encounter Pennywise. But we don't know what happens next as the IT: Welcome to Derry plays next.

  • Trouble in the Hanlon household

After the familiar opening, the scene shifts to 1962 at the Hanlon household. Leroy is chastising Will for going into the tunnels in the previous episode. He grounds Will in their home inside the Army compound, and Will refuses to follow his father's rules, pointing out that his friends need him. As does this, Will also humiliates Leroy for letting Pauly die, prompting the latter to strike the former.

An upset Will leaves home and cycles to Derry to meet Lilly, Marge, Rich, and Ronnie. After that, Leroy visits Dick Hallorann's room and prompts him to complete the mission. After those visits, he comes home to find Charlotte packing her bags for returning to Shreveport. This is where she reveals to Leroy where Hank Grogan is hiding.

  • Hank is hiding in The Black Spot

As Dick returns to The Black Spot, his officer friends inform him that they are temporarily hiding Hank. The plan is to smuggle Hank to safety outside Derry, as they know that he won't receive a fair trial. Hallorann reveals that he doesn't want any part of this and leaves. Soon, Ronnie and Will are on Hank's side in The Black Spot.

  • Rich and Marge bond

Marge and Rich's bonding is the most charming and heartwarming moment of this IT: Welcome to Derry episode. The first one sees Rich helping Marge take off the bandaid from her eye. The next day at school, after a contentious interaction with the Patty Cakes, Marge and Rich share a table where they bond over the shared trauma of hearing voices from the pipes in their bathroom.

But the absolute highlight is when Rich reveals himself to be a fantastic drummer in the last act of this episode at The Black Spot.

  • Lilly shows the shard to her friends

Lilly barely manages to escape in the previous episode as the shard from the meteor stops Pennywise on his way before he can devour her. She shows the shard to her friends but doesn't allow others to hold it. She suggests going back to the sewers and killing Pennywise using the shard. But Ronnie opposes this plan, and the two have a contentious issue that drives a wedge between her and Lilly.

  • Lilly learns the truth about Ingrid

Lilly visits Ingrid's home after her fight with Ronnie, but the latter isn't there. Lilly opens the door and walks up to the attic, where she finds an album. She initially smiles at the nurse's photographs over the years, but is a bit suspicious as she sees a photograph of young Ingrid with her father Bob Gray, in 1908. This is when Ingrid walks in.

Lilly is initially vulnerable when she tells Ingrid about her fight with Ronnie. Lilly and Ingrid share a hug, and that's where she realizes that Ingrid has a photograph of Pennywise the clown. Seeing Lilly afraid, Ingrid tries to assure the former that the evil entity is different from her father. She also reveals what happened to Mabel in the prologue of this IT: Welcome to Derry episode.

In the flashback, Ingrid tries to save Mabel, but fails to do so, and then IT transforms into her father, and they share a conversation. It is revealed that Ingrid sacrificed some kids to the entity, believing that deep inside IT is her father. Lilly also realizes that Ingrid also had a personal clown costume, and it was she who was photographed that night in the graveyard.

Ingrid tries to convince Lilly to visit Pennywise again, but the latter cuts the former's hands and runs out of the house.

  • Clint Bowers gets a tip

Clint Bowers is fired for his failure to arrest Hank Grogan in this IT: Welcome to Derry episode. He walks into a bar and tips off the members of the racist group, The Legion of White Decency, about Hank's location. He says that he got this tip from an unknown woman (probably Ingrid) when he was clearing out his desk. Then the scene shifts to The Black Spot.

  • The Legion of White Decency invades The Black Spot

The Black Spot is vibrant with song and Rich's drums, all that comes to an end as the racist group raids the bar for one man, Hank. But the IT: Welcome to Derry episode cuts to black as soon as the group comes across an African-American couple at the doorstep. As that happens, Ingrid dresses up in her clown costume, Periwinkle the Clown, in her attic.

IT: Welcome to Derry, episode six, "In the Name of the Father", is currently streaming on HBO Max.
