John Ortiz returns for the second season of Bad Monkey on Apple TV+ as Yancy's best pal, Rogelio Burton. This time, he will join the cast as a series regular.

The show marked Bill Lawrence's return to working with Apple after the successful comedy Shrinking, which followed the tradition of good-hearted humor from Ted Lasso. After following Jason Segel as a grieving therapist, Lawrence decided to bring Vince Vaughn as a former detective who finds himself in a bind, with problems of his own making.

As a fellow police detective, Rogelio was one of Yancy's biggest support systems, either guiding him away from the mess or helping him find a way out of it. Now, in the second season, he will have a prominent role in Yancy's story as Ortiz has been announced as a series regular. That's why we can witness even more of his banter with his friend in need.

Shortly before this announcement, Deadline also reported that John Malkovich has been cast as another series regular character, Spencer, who will be introduced in the second season of Bad Monkey. He will play the boss in charge of a South Florida criminal organization that Yancy might end up crossing paths with.

Through this project, showrunner Bill Lawrence hoped to do justice to Carl Hiaasen's novels, which offered the source inspiration behind his creative narrative. Speaking about the project, he previously shared a statement, which, as per Apple TV+, reads:

“I hope that people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration for me as a writer."

It further says,

"To get to go on telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is very exciting. I’m very thankful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros, as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”

In the show's first season, ex-detective Adam Yancy's life turned upside down when he decided to return to his sleuth instincts by following what could have been a crucial piece of evidence for a potential criminal investigation. However, it doesn't bode well for him since it all takes him on a roller coaster of an adventure in Florida.

Lawrence made a fine use of the sunny, tropical landscapes to turn Bad Monkey's story into a cocktail of fascinating characters. One of them, as earlier mentioned, was Rogelio. John Ortiz, who played this part, also received a nomination at the Imagen Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.

According to ScreenRant, Natalie Martinez might return as Rosa Campesino in the show's new season, besides Michelle Monaghan as Bonnie Witt, David St. Louis as Carter "Egg" Ecclestone, Ronald Peet as Neville Stafford, and Todd Allen Durkin as Sheriff Summers.

Its first season included an ensemble, which also included Rob Delaney, Jodie Turner-Smith, Alex Moffat, L. Scott Caldwell, and Meredith Hagner as its central characters. Zach Braff also guest-starred.

The second season of Bad Monkey is yet to receive an official release date.
