Fans have been anticipating the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival show since it was first announced. Academy Award winner Chloe Zhao’s involvement in directing the pilot of the reboot series further hyped up the return of the beloved supernatural series, 25 years after the end of the original show.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the director shared an exciting update about finishing up the filming of the revival show and said,

"I just wrapped the pilot on the new “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series, which is set 25 years later."

The update has been welcomed by fans with more excitement, as they cannot wait to see their favorite Slayer, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, in a new role as a mentor in the new installment.

More on this in our story.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot show filmed the pilot

The original supernatural drama premiered in 1997 and narrated the story of Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her friends fighting numerous terrifying supernatural beings. It was one of the biggest and most loved shows of the particular genre, which has now become a cult classic due to a dedicated fan following.

The Oscar-winning director, Chloe Zhao, has also time and again shared that she was one of those fans of the show, and being able to be involved in bringing the fan-favorite show back was one of the most invigorating experiences of her life. She also shared her excitement to let the fans see the revival.

To add to her previous comment, she said:

"The fandom is so special to me and I’m excited about how that’s going to go into the world."

Based on Zhao’s update, it appears that the wait for the fans to see the pilot of the reboot show might be nearing an end, as the premiere might not be as far away. However, a release date for the revival show has not been shared yet.

However, in the revival show, our favorite slayer will be appearing in a brand-new role as a mentor to the lead of the show, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who will be the new slayer.

Other than Gellar and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival cast also includes Ava Jean, Jack Cutmore-Scott, Daniel Di Tomasso, Sarah Bock, and Faly Rakotohavana.

Aside from the main cast, the pilot will also incorporate guest stars, including the names of popular actors such as Chase Sui Wonders, Merrin Dungey, Audrey Grace Marshall, and Audrey Hsieh.

While a release date might not be confirmed yet, the updates about the cast and filming have already made the show a talk of the town, resulting in anticipation and excitement from the dedicated fans and casual viewers as well.
