Tracker Season 3 had its much-awaited premiere on CBS on October 19, 2025. The new chapter continues the journey of survivalist Colter Shaw, who works on missing persons cases in exchange for rewards.

Meanwhile, some secrets about his family’s past keep haunting him. In the third season's premiere, Colter learns that his mother had lied to him all these years, and his brother, Russell, was in no way responsible for his father’s death.

Following the episode’s release, lead actor Justin Hartley had an interview with Deadline, where he talked about how the revelations of the family secrets are finally going to send Colter on a journey to find inner peace in Tracker Season 3:

“It’s sort of his journey to find an inner peace with his family…because, it’s been years, and he’s been misled and misdirected in terms of who’s responsible for his father’s death and how crazy his father really was. What he was into, if there’s a government conspiracy and all that kind of stuff.”

Justin Hartley reveals how Colter will go on a journey to find inner peace in Tracker Season 3

Tracker Season 3 Episode 1 reveals that Colter’s mother had lied to him about his father’s death. While she pinned the blame for the incident on Russ, which led to a long rift between the two brothers, it was actually Otto who had pushed Ashton off the cliff. Talking about the whole scenario created by Colter’s mother, Justin Hartley said:

“Now, he finds out that his mother knows more than she let on, which is not a huge shocker, I guess, that his mother lied to him, but that’s a pretty crazy story. The fact that his own mother knew that he blamed his brother, and she let him do that for a while.”

The actor added that years of lies and unwarranted tussles with Russ have led to trauma for Colter, and it will take some time for him to overcome it. However, as he learns more about his father’s death in Tracker Season 3, it will eventually help him find inner peace:

“It kept the brothers apart, and that’s really disappointing. So just [Colter’s] quest to find some inner peace with all of that. I don’t know if you can ever move on from that, but I think the more answers he gets, it’ll help him get there.”

The mystery surrounding Ashton’s death has haunted Colter since the beginning of the action drama. Now that he finally knows that his brother was not the one who pushed their father to his death, Colter can finally mend their relationship in the new season.

Tracker Season 3 has brought back Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw, Jensen Ackles as Russell “Russ” Shaw, and Fiona Rene as Reenie Greene. However, Velma Bruin and Bobby Exley have been written off the show, and hence, Abby McEnany and Eric Graise are not reprising their roles in the new installment.

Tracker Season 3 airs new episodes on CBS on Sundays.
