The first trailer for Landman Season 2 was officially released on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Based on the trailer, it looks like the Taylor Sheridan-created series has fixed a major issue with the acclaimed first season, which was the character of Monty Miller, played by Mad Men's Jon Hamm. Miller's passing in the season 1 finale, "The Crumbs of Hope", was also the show's controversial moment.
Billy Bob Thornton's Tommy Norris was immediately declared M-Tex Oil Corporation's new president after Monty's passing, a role new to the company's top landman. The upcoming second season will follow Tommy learning the ropes of his new role in M-Tex as he works closely with Monty's widow, Cami Miller. The official logline of this season reads:
“As oil rises from the earth, so do secrets — and Tommy Norris’ (Thornton) breaking point may be closer than he realizes. Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller (Moore), and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble — it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.”
It seems that Demi Moore's Cami Miller has a larger role in Landman's second season:
While Cami and Monty Miller were introduced in the first season, both of them appeared very rarely in the series. While Jon Hamm appeared more than Moore in season 1, he still had very little to do, which continues to be a source of contention for fans to this day. His little screen time is why not a lot of fans felt the death of Monty in the Landman finale.
Which is why it is surprising to see Cami play a larger role in the upcoming second season. It is also not surprising that Moore has a larger role to play this season, as she is the owner of M-Tex after Tommy's passing. Furthermore, it seems that Moore was aware of a larger role in the next season, as Monty's death was filmed.
It seems that Monty's death was always planned even before Sheridan cast Hamm in the role. Billy Bob Thornton pointed to this at the Landman - Outstanding Drama Series Panel at the Newport Beach TV Fest on June 7, 2025:
"That was pre-planned before Taylor even knew Jon was gonna be playing the part. He needed that for the show. He needed to show the pressure of owning an oil company and gambling that way every day. [Sheridan] wanted to show a guy as young as Jon who literally dies from a stressed heart, broken heart. So it had to happen that way. We knew before we started shooting, but we didn’t know for a long time who was gonna play that part. Taylor brought it up to me, I said, ‘Oh yeah, I met Jon at a Cardinals game one time.’ We’re both Cardinals fans. Jon did an amazing job, but [dying] was a requirement for that part, and Jon knew it going in."
Cami's help will be extremely valuable for Tommy for the upcoming season, as Tommy will need all the help he can get as he has to contend with enemies in the boardroom and the oil field.
Andy Garcia's Gallino is a larger role this season:
The finale featured several important moments, and one of them is a surprising cameo by Andy Garcia, who is playing the role of Gallino. Before his introduction, Tommy is about to be killed by Jimenez and his men, who are holding the new M-Tex president. Gallino stops Tommy's murder, and the two make a deal, where the latter would help the former leave the drug world and enter the oil drilling business.
Gallino's appearance in the Landman finale sets up his role in the upcoming season, which will begin streaming next month.
Binge the entire first season, which is available to stream on Paramount+ as we wait for Landman season 2 next month.
