Malcolm and his chaotic Wilkerson family will be back with Disney+'s Malcolm in the Middle Reboot. The reboot series titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair will bring back Malcolm, now with his daughter, to his parents’ 40th Anniversary.

Frankie Muniz, who will be reprising his role as the genius Malcolm, recently revealed that fans of the original series are going to be “surprised” as they meet the Wilkersons after almost two decades since the end of the original show.

While talking on the Lightweights podcast, Muniz shared:

"I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story."

More on this in our story.

Malcolm in the Middle Reboot: Frankie Muniz hints at an unexpected family reunion

Malcolm in the Middle was a classic sitcom of the early 2000s and ran for seven seasons before wrapping up in 2006. It narrated the story of the dysfunctional Wilkerson family, who lived with their three boys after their eldest son went to a military school.

In this new setting, Muniz’s Malcolm, a genius with an IQ of 165, finds himself as the middle child of the family after one of his elder brothers leaves home. The show depicted his life amid the chaos of his own family.

The reboot series was announced by Disney last year in December, almost two decades after the end of the original show. Muniz, in the podcast, talked about how meeting the family after almost twenty years will be a surprise for the fans. He also shared how they have tried their best to fit in details about what the family has been up to in those years in this four-part series.

Adding to his previous comment, he said:

"It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with."

Further, he also shared how excited he was to film the Malcolm in the Middle Reboot, which he initially did not expect. In addition, Muniz also shared that filming for the four-part series was completed in May 2025.
