Back in March 2025, it was announced that horror legend Matthew Lillard would be joining the cast of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. However, the creators of the show did not reveal the character he would be playing. Now, during the recent New York Comic Con, Marvel TV and animation head, Brad Winderbaum revealed the character that Matthew Lillard would be playing in the much awaited show.
And no, it isn't Mister Fear.
According to Winderbaum, Matthew Lillard will be playing a character called Mr. Charles in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. The character is also said to be an antagonist to the character of Kingpin.

In conversation with EW, Brad Winderbaum revealed that Matthew Lillard will be playing a character called Mr. Charles in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Delving deep into the thought behind the character and actor selection, Winderbaum explains,
"He plays a character named Mr. Charles. The story is about power. When Wilson Fisk takes over New York, not just as a mayor but as a king in a way, it puts him in a new class of power players on the international stage. Matthew Lillard's character represents that."
He even opened up about how the character of Mr. Charles causes different kinds of problems for Fisk, in ways that Daredevil cannot.
"He's a bit of a new antagonist on the field, but he's as influential in many ways as Fisk is. That power negotiation at a very high level of politics and international diplomacy is also fun to watch. He is dealing with Mr. Charles up here and Daredevil down here for different reasons. So he's getting squeezed a little bit."
Mr. Charles is not an entirely new character, as he does feature in the comic books once, inconsequential as he may seem at the time. He is associated with the powerful Roxxon Corporation which can change the story if it becomes involved with Fisk’s bourgeoning empire, with him starting to expand offshore.

So far, Matthew Lillard has shown a prowess in the horror genre, having been an integral part of many pop culture icons like Five Nights at Freddy's, Thirteen Ghosts, and several movies in the Scream franchise. So, it will be interesting to watch him take on an antagonist role in a different format in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
