Paramount+'s Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 is almost done, as the finale will stream this coming Sunday. The acclaimed crime drama follows Mike McLusky's attempts to keep peace in the streets of Kingstown after his older brother Mitch's passing. Mike takes over as the "Mayor" after Mitch died in the season 1 premiere.

The fourth season sees Mike at his lowest as he finds himself surrounded by enemies from all fronts. However, it seems that Mike gets a respite in Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 Episode 9, "Teeth and Tissue". The episode brings to a head several plotlines that have been building since the season 4 premiere, ensuring a riveting penultimate episode for the fourth season.

Jeremy Renner (Mike McLusky)

Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 put Jeremy Renner's Mike McLusky through a wringer. In addition to the rising threat of a gang war, Mike is worried about his brother, Kyle's, well-being in prison. One of the biggest opponents that Mike has to confront in this season is Nina Hobbs (Edie Falco), the new warden of Kyle's prison, who has a secret.

Renner teased the tense relationship between Mike and Hobbs in a red carpet interview with ScreenRant:

"You see it right in the very beginning. And it's what kicks off this amazing dynamic of two foes. But you always want to imagine, too, could they be on the same side? It starts off with a giant hill to climb, with Nina coming in. She's the new warden. And you see this greatest sort of vulnerability having his cop brother in prison, and he can't protect him, and that's the only thing he's got to do in his life right now, is that, and he can't. He's completely handcuffed because of Hobbs, the new warden."

Taylor Handley (Kyle McLusky)

Kyle and Mike's relationship can be described as complicated in this season, as Mike, despite his best efforts, failed to stop several attacks on the former in prison. However, Kyle finally does manage to see the light at the end of the tunnel in the 9th episode. He is finally released from prison in "Teeth and Tissue".

Edie Falco (Nina Hobbs)

The new warden at Kyle's prison, Hobbs, is working with one of Mike's enemies. She was, in fact, appointed as the warden to be a thorn in Mike's side. Falco alluded to this in the same ScreenRant interview at the red carpet premiere:

Matthew Del Negro (Will Breen)

The major event of Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 Episode 9 is Will Breen's rampage as Kyle is released from prison. Breen is placed on restrictive duty in this episode, and prisoners' taunts have him snap. He massacres the prison inmates, but is shot by Cindy before Breen can fatally shoot Kyle.

Cindy Stephens (Laura Benanti)

Introduced as a rookie corrections officer, Cindy is a new character. Described as one of the few good people in the series, Cindy is in a state of shock after fatally shooting Breen in Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 Episode 9. Laura Benanti said that Officer Breen's dark fate will haunt Cindy for a while in an Entertainment Weekly interview after the ninth episode:

“To have to kill someone who is also a corrections officer — the person who, frankly, I communicated with probably more than anyone else [this season] — it's a really terrifying thing to do that changes a person forever. I cannot even imagine seeing what she saw and then having to do what she did, even though she had to, even though it was the right thing to do. There's no way that doesn't change a person.”
