Disney+'s Andor gave many Star Wars: Rogue One characters befitting back stories, charting their roles in the Rebel Alliance.

One such character who shone the brightest in the spin-off show was Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly). From her first, albeit limited, appearance in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Mon Mothma has remained one of the most intriguing characters of the franchise.

Played by Caroline Blakiston, Mon appears only once in the Original Trilogy when the Alliance is about to take its final stand against Emperor Palpatine, but that was enough to establish her as a strong character.

While Rogue One and Star Wars Rebels have established the character further, Tony Gilroy's Andor finally revealed her backstory and her role in raising a Rebel army from the shadows.

With much scope for her character, it's about time that Mon Mothma finally gets her own spin-off show.

While Mon Mothma has had many appearances across many Star Wars shows and movies, Rogue One and Andor actually developed her backstory and gave her the spotlight she deserves.

While Mon's only appearance in the Original Trilogy is enough to immortalize the character, the latest spin-off show has proved that she deserves her own spotlight. Her appearances in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Clone Wars were also cameos and did little to expand her backstory.

It was finally in Star Wars: Rogue One that Mon Mothma realised her full potential by uniting one of the most iconic pairings in the universe, Jyn Erso and Cassian. While the pair is tasked to rescue Galen Erso, the consequences of the pairing directly lead to Star Wars: A New Hope, which proves Mon's importance in the universe.

Andor Season 2 finally expanded on Mon Mothma's much-needed backstory, where she grew frustrated by the Galactic Empire's reorganization. While she retained a seat at the Imperial Senate, she began working in the shadows with Luthen Rael to raise money for the Rebel Alliance.

Mon Mothma spin-off TV show could likely focus on the explored areas of her life

While Andor Season 2 expanded on Mon Mothma's back story like no other TV show, her powerful speech after the Ghorman massacre even further established her as a powerful politician and orator.

After the tragic Ghorman massacre, Mon Mothma realises her full potential and publicly denounces Emperor Palpatine in a speech to the senate:

''The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest.''

Accusing Palpatine of the massacre and destruction, she continues:

''What happened yesterday on Ghorman was unprovoked genocide...The monster who will come for us all soon enough... is Emperor Palpatine!"

An echo of her sentiments can also be heard in her powerful speech in Star Wars Rebels, which again posits her as a powerful character. With Andor deepening Mon's lore, many events about her life are under the shadows and need to be addressed in a spin-off TV show.

In addition, O’Reilly's powerful performance deserves more exploration. Since Season 2's final arc did not have enough time to expand Mon's life after she chose to step away from her career and family, a spin-off show can very well expand on that.

We already saw that she had a relationship with the Bothans, which ultimately led to the destruction of the second Death Star. Expanding on that storyline and exploring themes of strategising, politics, and scheming against the Empire could be a befitting continuation of her character in the Star Wars universe.
