Motorheads' fans are certainly not holding it in after Amazon Prime Video recently axed the show after Season 1. While it promised much potential, the show ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger, and even entered Prime Video's Top 10 charts after its debut in May, the platform has seemingly sealed the series' tragic fate.
Starring Ryan Phillippe, Michael Cimino, and Melissa Collazo, the original series is a sports teen coming-of-age tale and a mystery series, all combined into one. Season 1 follows twins Zac and Caitlyn's return to Ironwood, Pennsylvania, a town that has a deep history in motor car racing. As the siblings reconnect with their uncle and former NASCAR driver Logan, they realise their passion for cars and street car racing.
Motorheads Season 1 ended on a shocking cliffhanger where Harris was involved in a brutal car explosion during his race with Zac. While his fate hung in the balance, Caitlyn received a mysterious call that might be related to their father's disappearance.
With no resolution to these cliffhangers, fans took to social media to express their frustration with Motorheads' cancellation, as one fan wrote:
''Oh no. Such a great show. Was really looking forward to a second season.''
More on this in our story.
Fans express their disappointment with Motorheads' cancellation after one season
Motorheads' cancellation news comes on the heels of the series re-entering Prime Video's Top 5 charts yesterday. Currently, the series sits at the No. 7 spot on the platform, which proves how prematurely the platform axed the show when new audiences were starting to discover it. The coming-of-age tale was likely axed because it had a slower start than other popular teen series on the platform, like The Summer I Turned Pretty and Maxton Hall.
Still, disappointed Motorheads' fans flocked to Reddit to express their frustration with its cancellation:
''Unbelievable. So much better than dozens of shows getting 5+ seasons.'' u/aerodeck commented
''They left it on a cliffhanger too...If it doesn’t happen, I hope an interview with the show runner happens to see what a potential season 2 would have looked like.'' u/Badtz143 also expressed their disappointment with the cancelation
''OMGGGG WHAAAAT?? I THOUGHT IT WAS A SUCCESS so many people were trying to have a story line with that girl the twin sister with the blonde hair guy...'' u/Confident-Tie5698 seemed a little too bummed after the recent news
Additionally, some Motorheads' fans also slammed Amazon Prime Video for canceling the show prematurely when they did not market it properly in the first place. They blamed the platform for not investing in proper advertising as u/rissellc commented (with proper facts):
''I just did some googling and there seem to be a recent pattern at prime video of nonsensically canceling shows after “poor” viewership despite doing little to nothing to market said shows … Sounds like a mess over there...''
''Prime has great shows but they never advertise them that well like say, Netflix. I only found the show by chance, it’s a great show.'' u/stephanieleigh88 agreed
Fans hope to see Motorheads on another streaming platform
Soon after Motorheads' cancellation, a Deadline report suggests that Amazon has permitted the show producers to take it into the market and look for potential homes. As executive producer Jason Seagraves revealed to Deadline, the creators have already started conversations with other potential streaming platforms that believe in their vision.
While it is certainly rare for originals to shift to an altogether new streaming platform, it is not impossible. Tom Ellis' fantasy series Lucifer is one example, where after its cancellation at Fox, the show was picked up (and thrived) at Netflix. Fans are hoping that Motorheads also find a new streaming home:
''Just finished it last week. Such a great show, I really hope someone else picks it up cause it has so much potential.'' u/NesianNation hopes
''I think maybe netflix might consider it. this show is something netflix would promote or produce.'' u/Confident-Tie5698 hopes that Netflix picks it for Season 2
The show is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
