Newfoundland is soon going to be in the limelight for something eerie and exciting, and fans of Stranger Things will recognize one of the faces in its cast right away. The upcoming Netflix limited series Newfoundland has officially cast Charlie Heaton in a major lead role for the project.

Heaton will be joining Josh Hartnett and Mackenzie Davis in what's being described as a gritty and mysterious story set on Canada's wild Atlantic coast.
Yes, Jonathan Byers is on his way to the north, and this time, there's something terrifying lurking not in the Upside Down but in the deep waters.
A sea creature, a struggling town, and Charlie Heaton in Netflix's Newfoundland
Charlie Heaton takes the lead in this six episode Netflix series that is both set and filmed in Newfoundland. The story centers on a fisherman, played by Josh Hartnett, who finds his quiet coastal life turned upside down when danger comes not from storms or poverty, but something far worse.
The official Netflix synopsis for Newfoundland reads:
"When a mysterious sea creature terrorizes a remote Newfoundland town, a hard-bitten fisherman must fight to protect his family, his community, and his vanishing way of life."
Heaton stars alongside Hartnett and Mackenzie Davis in what looks like a tightly-woven survival drama. Jesse McKeown is the creator and showrunner, with directing duties split between Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver, and Stephen Dunn. The writing team includes Karen Walton, Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz.
All of them bring a range of experience in handling dark, character heavy storytelling. McKeown will executive produce with Jessica Rhoades, Hartnett, Chris Hatcher, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton, and Sharon Hall also joining the production board.
With Newfoundland's cold landscape acting as the setting, the Netflix limited series aims to mix human drama with a supernatural threat, something Stranger Things fans are already familiar with when it comes to Heaton.
Charlie Heaton moves to the Atlantic from the Upside Down
Charlie Heaton, recognized for playing Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, continues his collab with Netflix with this new role. Since Stranger Things' debut in 2016, Heaton has been an important part of the Netflix story, playing a quiet and often overlooked character who has grown on fans over the seasons.
With the series wrapping up this year, his next move seemed inevitable and this series looks like a natural shift.

Outside of Stranger Things, Heaton has added to his film credits with roles in The New Mutants and Marrowbone. He's also known in the indie film world and for his work in music. Now, stepping into Netflix's Newfoundland, Heaton enters a more rugged, adult role in a project that steps away from the energy of Hawkins and the Upside Down.
This new Netflix series for Charlie Heaton will be filled with danger, isolation, and the unknown and it feels like the perfect place for Heaton to explore more projects and much more mature character driven work.
The shores of Newfoundland are about to welcome one of Netflix's most recognizable faces. With Charlie Heaton stepping into this thrilling new series, the story promises danger, mystery, and emotional depth.
For fans of the actor and the genre, this one's already looking like a must watch.
