Peacemaker Season 2 is still nearly three months away, with a release date of August 21, 2025. The eight-episode DC HBO show will be released approximately a month after Superman flies into theatres worldwide on July 11, 2025. However, in an Entertainment Weekly interview published on May 26, 2025, James Gunn and John Cena teased the show's presence in this year's Comic Con.
They revealed that the new opening title for Peacemaker Season 2 will be revealed in July, during the San Diego Comic Con. The choice to reveal this during Comic Con makes sense, considering the SDCC is the best event for genre properties, including comic book adaptations. James Gunn confirmed that the season 2 opening will use a new song during the February 2025 press event.
However, the release of the new intro song at San Diego Comic Con suggests that DC Studios might have at least some presence in Hall H. It should be noted that, as of now, we don't know if DC Studios will be present at SDCC or not. However, this suggestion gives us hope that DC will present in Hall H, even if it is not yet official.
What did James Gunn say about the Peacemaker Season 2 intro song?
Apart from confirming when the new intro song will be made public, James Gunn also had some interesting teases of what we can see on the screen as the new song plays out before every Peacemaker Season 2 episode:
"I'll give you an exclusive: You get to see Eagly try to dance for the first time. So that's really something. He is not the best at it, but he tries to really join in the dance sequence at the end. He's got a little pose this time."
The series star, John Cena, who was also present in the interview, along with Gunn, added:
"This time around, everybody looked at it through a different lens, knowing how much the audience enjoyed the first one. [We knew] this is going to be a cornerstone of the show, so let's dive in. Everyone gave their best in season 1, but I just think people now know the importance of it and hopefully it shines through in season 2."
James Gunn addresses why he chose a new song for the opening of Peacemaker Season 2
In the same Entertainment Weekly interview, James Gunn touched upon the reason why he opted not to retain Wig Wam's "Do Ya Wanna Taste It." Here's what Gunn said:
"We killed everyone in the season, so we kind of had to. Everyone died![laughs]. Also, we have a lot of new cast members — Tim Meadows is Langston Fleury, Sol Rodriguez is Sasha Bordeaux, and Michael Rooker's in the cast, Judomaster is a bigger character this time — so I knew that I needed to do a new dance."
He further revealed that they were considering retaining the song but changing the choreography but ultimately chose to go ahead with a new hair metal song. He said,
"I really went back and forth an awful lot. And at the end of the day, I decided that we use a new song that's a little bit more about what the season's about."
Gunn then went on to clarify that he did not seek to one-up the opening of the previous season with the new Peacemaker Season 2 opening song, as that's an uphill task:
"I think there's 4 billion views of the dance sequence on TikTok, so when you have something that's that viral, I just wanted to do a good job with the [new] dance sequence. I don't know if the dance sequence ever is going to one-up the first, because no one expected it. It was a complete surprise, and you just can't replicate that. However, the surprises within the show itself, I think, replicate that many times over, because there's so many more twists and turns in this season with what happens and what you find out about this universe."
