Netflix's latest Spanish series, Old Dog, New Tricks, premiered on October 3, 2025, and has won over viewers with its quirky narrative and, ofcourse, the show's star- the pets. The comedy series, originally titled Animal, follows the story of a veterinarian named Antón.

After losing his clients in the village, Antón joins his niece, Uxía's, pet store, Kawanda. While learning to adapt to his own new settings, Antón, through numerous comedic misadventures, also learn to handle his new clients and the pets. Besides the wonderful scene-stealing pets, the show thrives in its character-centric narrative and creates a humorous yet thoughtful show.

Old Dog, New Tricks narrates the tale of how Antón, with his straightforward approach toward handling animals, stumbles into several problems in Kawanda, the pet store he now works in. Furthermore, the comedy series also handles the interaction between Antón and Uxía perfectly as the duo have different personalities and share a dynamic that helps strengthen the show even more.

The cast and character guide of Old Dog, New Tricks is as follows:

1) Luis Zahera as Antón

Luis Zahera is the protagonist of Old Dog, New Tricks, and plays the character of Antón. He is a veterinarian from Galician Village who ends up working in a pet store owned by his niece, Uxía. He has a simple theory of treating the animals. However, he sometimes tries to use that same logic with the humans, which ends up creating difficulties for him, and these circumstances are the ways he learns to adjust in the new setting, and also provide many comedic moments.

Zahera is a popular Spanish actor and has been in numerous shows such as La última and Enemigo íntimo, and popular Spanish movies such as El reino (The Realm), Concursante (The Contestant), and Todo es silencio (All Is Silence), among many others.

2) Lucía Caraballo as Uxía

Lucía Caraballo's character Uxía is another important character from the Spanish comedy series. She owns the pet store, Kawanda, and hires her uncle, Antón, to be the vet in the store. Unlike Antón, Uxía is more humane and always adheres to her morals, trying to save humans and animals. This desire of hers also lands her up in several unavoidable circumstances that help her character growth. Furthermore, her dynamic relationship with Antón is also at the centre of the Netflix series.

Caraballo has been in several popular Spanish TV shows, which include Estoy vivo, No me gusta conducir, and Las largas sombras.

3) Antonio Durán "Morris" as Vicente

Veteran Spanish actor Antonio's character, Vicente, can be called a frenemy of Antón in the Netflix comedy series. He is a scammer who even tries to scam Antón, his cousin's partner. His character provides multiple challenges for Antón, which drives the story forward, making his role significant.

Known for his role in Pratos combinados, the Spanish actor has since appeared in many shows such as Néboa and El final del camino, among others.

4) Carmen Ruiz as Sabela

Ruiz's character Sabela is Antón's partner in Old Dog, New Tricks. She is the one who forces Antón to work in Kawanda, as they were dealing with an overwhelming amount of debt, and the other choice would be to sign a document and be a part of her cousin's elaborate scam.

The Spanish actress has appeared in shows such as Yo soy Bea, Madres. Amor y vida, and Amar es para siempre, among several others.
