Derek Haas' latest crime thriller, Countdown, will release its Season 1 finale tomorrow on Prime Video, following the usual release schedule. After last week's cliffhanger episode, the stakes are looking higher than ever. Nathan Blythe's task force has been somewhat compromised as the killer, aka Todd, managed to lure them into a trap and kill two of the officers (DEA Agent Oliveras and FBI Special Agent Bell).

Todd also left a direct threat message for the Feds, challenging the government, as it appears, only death can stop him from doing the unthinkable. Amidst all the conundrums of a new threat to the state of California, Countdown has continued building on Oliveras (Jessica Camacho) and Mark's (Jensen Ackles) chemistry, which had started to develop bit by bit from the very first episode.

The two officers share a bittersweet relationship where Mark is always his usual weird self, cracking lame jokes, flirting, and instigating, and Oliveras is putting up her fierce officer aura and not indulging in any of the provocations. The duo has come a long way till now, and as the Countdown Season 1 finale gears up, a short preview of their highly anticipated romance has left fans hoping.

During the Volchek chapter, LAPD officer Mark Meachum was struggling with his brain tumor, and throughout his painful journey, Oliveras was there to comfort him. She was the first one to whom he opened up about his illness (for obvious reasons), and ever since, Oliveras has had a soft corner for her colleague.

Their bond is stronger than any other pair on the team as the two of them have shared the most dangerous on-field missions: From being undercover to defending each other in nerve-wracking gunfights.

Mark and Oliveras went from being just team members to close friends in Countdown, and the former even helped the DEA Agent to open up about her struggle with substance use (it was triggered by a traumatic incident from Oliveras' past).

The two know about one another's weaknesses and flaws very well, and rather than judging, they have always been supportive. Besides these, Mark and Oliveras have shared some happy moments as well, from practising together at shooting ranges to drinking beer; the pair has always enjoyed each other's company.

Moreover, when Oliveras learns that Mark's illness is terminal, she becomes hell bent to get him cured, and so she takes help from one of her old flames, Julio, who is also a neurosurgeon. With the help of Oliveras and Julio, Mark gets himself enrolled in a medical trial for his tumor, and after months of treatment, he comes back in great shape; so far, as it appears, his illness is curable.

Once the Volchek chapter is over, the team members part ways and head to their respective departments until months later, another perilous mission brings them back together. The feelings that Oliveras and Mark had kept suppressed now start getting in their way.

Oliveras had moved on and is currently dating her old friend, Julio (who also helped to cure Mark), and Mark is back to his old bachelor habits. However, once they face each other, the old wounds, as expected, open up, and Mark finds it difficult to wrap his head around the thought that Oliveras is with someone else now.

The two thus decide to keep their feelings aside for the sake of the mission and start working together, but is it really over? The preview of Countdown Episode 13 has sparked new theories about their relationship, as in the short clip, we witness the two sharing an intense moment.

And given their tumultuous journey so far, it would give creative closure to their highly anticipated relationship, thereby formally introducing the element of romance in the Countdown Season 1 finale. Moreover. Julio, being a common connection to both of them, we might witness a tense love triangle at work.
